Last week, Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest executed a decisive strategy favoring AI-focused infrastructure and cloud computing platforms, with Cloudflare emerging as the fund’s largest acquisition.
The investment firm deployed a total of $29.9M into Cloudflare positions throughout its various funds following the company’s impressive second-quarter performance that propelled shares upward by more than 16%. Multiple Wall Street analysts responded favorably to both the earnings report and forward guidance.
Cloudflare specializes in delivering security solutions and web optimization services via its content delivery infrastructure. The company’s edge computing capabilities enable customers to deploy applications without traditional server management, positioning it as a critical player in the expanding cloud services market.
The chipmaker Nvidia secured the second-largest investment during the period. Ark distributed $26.9M across five separate portfolios following news that the company is collaborating with financial institutions to secure $500 billion in funding for artificial intelligence infrastructure projects.
Heavy Investment in Artificial Intelligence and Aerospace
Cerebras Systems attracted approximately $24.5M in new investment, underscoring Ark’s ongoing commitment to AI computation technologies. The space exploration company Rocket Lab garnered nearly $23M, demonstrating the fund’s sustained interest in aerospace ventures. Broadcom saw an additional $16.7M allocated to its position.
Additional acquisitions of more modest scale included Teradyne ($9.7M), alongside expanded holdings in Cerus, Schrƶdinger, Intellia Therapeutics, Securitize, and the 3iQ Solana Staking ETF.
Major Exits From Deere, Shopify, and Palantir
Regarding divestments, Deere represented the most substantial reduction, totaling close to $60M. Shopify saw $22.8M in shares sold, while Palantir Technologies experienced an $11.7M decrease.
The fund also reduced its exposure to 10x Genomics by $11.6M and Twist Bioscience by $10.3M, extending a broader retreat from genomics-focused investments.
Additional modest reductions occurred across Snowflake, Caterpillar, Iridium Communications, and various other positions spanning software development, biotechnology, and industrial manufacturing sectors.
While Ark’s buying activity signals confidence, Cloudflare’s current pricing presents valuation concerns. GuruFocus calculates the company’s intrinsic worth at approximately $187.20 per share, substantially below the current trading price of $315.78. This differential suggests the stock trades roughly 68.7% above estimated fair value.
The company’s Price-to-Sales multiple of 44.25x significantly exceeds its three-year historical median of 24.58x. Cloudflare continues to report negative profitability metrics, including earnings per share of -0.58 and an operating margin of -8.11%.
With a GF Score of 75 out of 100, Cloudflare demonstrates strong growth trajectory and market momentum, though profitability remains challenged. Insider buying activity has been absent over the previous three months, while insider dispositions reached $252.6M.
In summary, Ark Invest reallocated resources toward AI infrastructure, next-generation computing platforms, and aerospace opportunities, simultaneously reducing positions in industrial machinery and genomics sectors.
