The comprehensive capital allocation framework encompasses both standard dividend payments and share buyback programs, supplemented by distributions of surplus capital exceeding the institution’s 13% CET1 ratio benchmark. This announcement represents a cornerstone of Societe Generale’s updated strategic vision extending through decade’s end.
Standard capital distributions are projected to surpass €13 billion across the four-year timeframe. This total incorporates a €0.75 interim dividend that was previously declared in July.
Management intends to allocate these regular returns equally between cash dividend payments and equity buyback initiatives. The dividend per share unit is forecast to expand at an annual rate in the low-to-mid teens percentage range.
Bank Sets Ambitious Profitability Benchmarks
Societe Generale may distribute an additional €8 billion representing excess capital above its 13% CET1 threshold. This calculation encompasses a previously disclosed €1.5 billion special distribution.
The financial institution is establishing return on tangible equity objectives of 13%-14% by 2029. Management subsequently anticipates this metric will exceed 15% beginning in 2030.
These figures compare favorably against the approximately 11% target established for 2026. Chief Executive Officer Slawomir Krupa emphasized that the upcoming strategic phase will concentrate on profitable expansion while preserving rigorous expense management.
Revenue growth is projected to average approximately 3% annually throughout the 2026-2029 period. Risk-weighted assets are anticipated to expand at roughly 2% per year.
Societe Generale is additionally pursuing a group-wide cost-to-income ratio falling below 55% by 2029. Total expenses are expected to decline beneath €16.3 billion.

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Banking Drive Efficiency Strategy

The French retail banking, private wealth management, and insurance divisions are pursuing cost-to-income ratios beneath 55% by 2029. The global banking and investor solutions segment targets below 60%.
