Cathie Wood’s investment management firm ARK Invest expanded its Rocket Lab holdings by $25 million on Tuesday, simultaneously reducing its stake in tech giant Alphabet.
The purchase included 359,612 shares of Rocket Lab distributed among the ARKK, ARKQ, and ARKX exchange-traded funds. Valued at approximately $25.1 million, this acquisition supplements an existing position that ARK has been steadily accumulating as the stock experienced recent declines.
After completing this transaction, ARK’s combined Rocket Lab stake across all ETFs has reportedly grown to over 3.2 million shares, representing approximately $225 million based on current market valuations.
Strategic Expansion of Rocket Lab Holdings
Rocket Lab has established its reputation through Electron, its small-satellite launch system, though the company’s long-term investment appeal centers significantly on Neutron.
This larger, reusable launch vehicle aims to capture market share in the medium-lift segment. The company is working toward a fourth-quarter 2026 maiden flight, though management has cautioned that qualification testing timelines might extend the debut into 2027.
Beyond launch operations, Rocket Lab continues diversifying into satellite manufacturing and communications technology. These expansion efforts position the company to capitalize on accelerating demand across both commercial and defense space sectors.
ARK’s recent acquisition follows a pattern of consistent buying throughout Rocket Lab’s pullback from May peak levels. This sustained accumulation indicates the firm remains committed to the position despite recent share price volatility and partial recovery.
Alphabet Position Reduced
Concurrently, ARK divested 16,422 shares of Alphabet from its ARKQ and ARKX funds, representing approximately $5.8 million in value.
This divestment appears modest when compared to the Rocket Lab investment. While Alphabet maintains its status among the world’s most dominant and profitable technology enterprises, market participants remain divided on artificial intelligence’s potential impact on its core search revenue.
Google has been actively developing Gemini alongside proprietary AI processing chips, positioning Alphabet to capitalize on expanding AI infrastructure and software opportunities.
This portfolio adjustment underscores sharply contrasting investment philosophies. Alphabet delivers significant cash generation today, whereas Rocket Lab’s market valuation relies heavily on anticipated expansion in launch operations, Neutron deployment, and space infrastructure development.
Biotechnology Portfolio Adjustments
ARK executed multiple biotechnology transactions on Tuesday as well. The firm acquired 88,323 shares of Scribe Therapeutics valued at approximately $2.5 million, alongside smaller positions in Veracyte and Beam Therapeutics.
Simultaneously, ARK decreased exposure to Twist Bioscience and 10X Genomics. The firm additionally sold 19,139 shares of Everpure through its ARKW fund.
The Rocket Lab transaction clearly represented the most significant portfolio move of the session. This activity reaffirms ARK’s ongoing commitment to disruptive innovation across aerospace, biotechnology, and emerging technology sectors.
