Apple (AAPL) shares slipped approximately 0.4% on Wednesday, trading near $338.50, following Tuesday’s record peak of $345.34. The stock settled at $339.75 on Tuesday after momentarily surpassing the $345 threshold for the first time in company history.
The modest decline comes after a robust September surge primarily driven by enthusiasm surrounding Apple’s newest product releases. Shares have advanced approximately 25% during 2026 and have experienced significant appreciation since the company’s September launch event.
No significant negative developments appear to be driving Wednesday’s downturn. The movement appears to represent a natural consolidation after achieving fresh record territory.
Strong iPhone 18 Demand Fuels Momentum
Initial consumer response to the iPhone 18 product family has exceeded certain analyst projections. Evercore ISI reported that its comprehensive survey of nearly 4,000 American consumers indicated a more robust upgrade cycle than anticipated.
The research revealed that 53% of consumers planning device upgrades favored either the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max variants. Roughly 32% specifically indicated preference for the Pro Max model, representing an increase from 29% in the previous year.
Evercore also identifies enhanced pricing as a prospective revenue catalyst. The firm projects average selling prices could increase approximately 28% as consumers select premium configurations and expanded storage capacities.
Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone Duo represents an additional growth catalyst. The innovative device carries a $1,999 starting price and transforms from a 5.4-inch exterior display to a 7.6-inch internal screen.
The Duo is scheduled to arrive for customers in late October. Evercore’s survey indicated 14% of participants expressed interest in purchasing the device, though analysts believe demand may strengthen once consumers experience hands-on demonstrations in retail locations.
Demand for the standard iPhone 18 models also appears solid. Evercore analyst Amit Daryanani noted that initial week demand remained resilient despite encountering certain supply limitations.
All-Time High Intensifies Valuation Scrutiny
Apple’s recent surge has elevated its market capitalization toward the $5 trillion milestone. The stock currently trades at nearly 39 times earnings, substantially elevated compared to its historical valuation range over recent years.
This premium valuation creates limited margin for error should iPhone momentum decelerate or the Duo fail to trigger the anticipated upgrade wave. Supply chain vulnerabilities, China market exposure, and decelerating services expansion remain noteworthy risk factors.
Analyst sentiment remains divided despite the recent positive momentum. Evercore recently raised its price target to $380, while certain other analysts maintain targets beneath the current trading level.
Apple’s most recently reported quarterly performance continues to validate the rally. Revenue climbed 16.4% year-over-year to $109.42 billion, while earnings of $2.02 per share surpassed the $1.89 consensus forecast.
Currently, the latest trading activity reflects Apple experiencing a measured pullback following Tuesday’s milestone. The primary driver behind the recent advance remains stronger-than-expected initial iPhone 18 demand, with the iPhone Duo launch representing the next significant hardware milestone.
