Shares of Strategy (MSTR) advanced in Monday’s early session following the company’s disclosure that it secured approximately $263 million via equity sales last week — all while maintaining its complete bitcoin position.
The equity posted gains of approximately 1.2% during pre-market hours, trading at $96, coinciding with bitcoin’s weekend recovery to roughly $64,700.
Regulatory documents reveal that Strategy divested more than 2.7 million common shares via its at-the-market program, yielding around $263.5 million in proceeds.
Executive chairman Michael Saylor announced Monday that Strategy’s dollar-denominated reserves have climbed to $3.225 billion. Meanwhile, the company’s cryptocurrency treasury stands firm at 843,775 BTC, currently valued near $55 billion based on prevailing market rates.
This capital infusion provides Strategy with additional flexibility to satisfy dividend requirements without tapping into its digital asset portfolio — a delicate equilibrium the organization has been maintaining.
Since the beginning of 2026, MSTR has declined 38%. The extended cryptocurrency market downturn has stressed the company’s complex capital architecture, including preferred equity that demands regular dividend distributions.
The Rationale Behind Equity Sales Over Bitcoin Liquidation
In late June, Strategy greenlit the potential sale of up to $1.25 billion in bitcoin to strengthen liquidity and support dividend commitments. The board simultaneously authorized as much as $2 billion for share repurchases, distributed equally between preferred and common shares.
Notwithstanding that authorization, Strategy has maintained its cryptocurrency position unchanged for the previous fortnight. The company did liquidate approximately 2,225 bitcoin in early July — valued at roughly $216 million — marking its first substantial bitcoin disposal after years of relentless accumulation.
This transaction represented a significant departure for an organization that constructed its core strategy around acquiring and retaining bitcoin beginning in August 2020.
In February 2025, Saylor declared via X: “Never sell your bitcoin.” This principle remained intact for years until present financial considerations necessitated adjustment.
Liquidity Management Takes Precedence
During the latter part of last year, Strategy established a designated liquidity reserve to handle interest obligations and dividend distributions on its preferred securities. Following the most recent equity transaction, this reserve has expanded to $3.225 billion.
For the second consecutive week, Strategy opted for equity-based financing rather than cryptocurrency liquidation.
The organization’s approach emphasizes safeguarding its BTC position to the greatest extent feasible while leveraging equity capital markets to address immediate liquidity requirements.
Strategy continues to hold the distinction of being the globe’s largest corporate bitcoin stakeholder by a substantial margin, with 843,775 BTC.
With bitcoin trading around $64,700, the company’s digital asset treasury carries a valuation approaching $55 billion.
