Semtech (SMTC) shares are experiencing significant upward momentum following the company’s impressive fiscal second-quarter performance and forward guidance that substantially exceeded analyst projections. The semiconductor company’s stock surged more than 10% during premarket hours, extending its already remarkable 73% rally year-to-date.
The company reported quarterly revenue of $341.9 million, representing a 32.7% increase from the year-ago period and exceeding consensus projections of $328.67 million. This achievement represents the company’s tenth straight quarter of top-line expansion.
On the bottom line, adjusted earnings per share reached $0.71, comfortably beating the Street’s $0.61 forecast and showing substantial improvement from the $0.41 figure posted in the comparable quarter last year.
However, the forward outlook stole the show. The company projected fiscal third-quarter revenue between $405 million and $415 million, dramatically exceeding Wall Street’s previous $359.9 million estimate. Meanwhile, adjusted EPS guidance ranging from $1.02 to $1.08 significantly topped the $0.73 consensus forecast.
The company’s data-center operations are fueling much of this impressive performance. Rapid order growth and a record order backlog indicate sustained expansion in this critical business segment.
Wall Street Firms Boost Price Objectives
UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri increased his price objective to $230 from $225 while reaffirming a Buy recommendation. He highlighted over 160% year-over-year expansion in data-center revenue and sustained strength in the LoRa product portfolio. Arcuri projects data-center revenue could surpass $200 million quarterly by the first quarter of fiscal 2028.
Roth MKM analyst Scott Searle boosted his target to $220 from $190, maintaining a Buy stance. He anticipates the data-center and LoRa divisions will expand 120% year-over-year in Q3 and represent approximately 60% of overall revenue.
Benchmark preserved its Buy recommendation with a $230 price objective. Needham maintained its Buy rating at $200, emphasizing Data Center and LoRa expansion as primary catalysts supporting the elevated guidance. Stifel retained its Buy rating with a $188 target price.
Morgan Stanley Maintains Neutral Stance
Not all analysts are equally enthusiastic. Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore elevated his price target to $195 from $175 but maintained a Hold recommendation.
Moore recognized robust demand for the company’s optical product offerings and accelerating data-center revenue performance. He anticipates the next growth wave emerging from active copper cable (ACC) products ramping in the fourth quarter and expanded data-center opportunities extending through fiscal 2028.
UBS additionally noted that data-center expansion should easily compensate for any revenue headwinds from Semtech’s cellular module business divestiture, while simultaneously supporting profitability margin improvement.
According to TipRanks, SMTC stock holds a Strong Buy consensus recommendation supported by 11 Buy ratings and one Hold rating.
The mean analyst price target of $204 suggests nearly 60% additional upside potential from present trading levels. Accelerated FiberEdge qualification timelines are identified as a primary catalyst for near-term revenue growth, with CopperEdge product launches presenting additional opportunities approaching fiscal 2028.
