Shares of Micron were changing hands at $852.61 in Tuesday’s premarket session, representing a 5.29% decline that compounds Monday’s 2.25% slide as AI-focused memory chip manufacturers face intense selling pressure.
Sentiment across technology markets has deteriorated sharply. Nasdaq futures indicated a 1.1% decline early Tuesday morning, while South Korea’s KOSPI Index experienced a dramatic 11% overnight collapse — a delayed reaction to Monday’s U.S. market weakness that established a pessimistic tone for Tuesday’s trading.
Relative to its competitors, Micron demonstrated resilience during Monday’s session. Sandisk plummeted 11% while AMD declined more than 5% during the previous trading day. However, Tuesday’s premarket activity revealed the contagion spreading further, with Micron, Sandisk, and Western Digital each falling approximately 7%.
China represents the primary catalyst driving the current selloff. News surfaced that a Chinese manufacturer has successfully produced immersion deep ultraviolet lithography equipment — technology currently monopolized by Netherlands-based ASML. This development triggered widespread concern throughout semiconductor markets.
Chinese memory chip producer CXMT also captured attention after its shares soared 466% during its Shanghai stock exchange debut, momentarily establishing itself as mainland China’s highest-valued enterprise with a $484 billion market capitalization. CXMT shares retreated 4% on the second trading day.
Deutsche Bank strategist Jim Reid informed the Financial Times that revived concerns regarding AI infrastructure capital expenditures combined with threats from cheaper Chinese alternatives initiated the latest selloff wave affecting global semiconductor stocks.
Industry-Wide Strain Intensifies
SK Hynix tumbled 7.47% in the previous session and has surrendered nearly 47% from its June high. This substantial decline has unsettled the entire AI memory investment narrative, prompting doubts about whether high-bandwidth memory demand can support the sector’s valuation levels.
Samsung Electronics and Kioxia have similarly experienced downward pressure, alongside CXMT.
Micron continues trading substantially above its long-term technical indicators — positioned 19.4% above its 100-day moving average and 68.8% above its 200-day SMA — indicating the overarching upward trend persists. However, short-term momentum has reversed. The shares currently trade 11.5% beneath the 20-day SMA and 10.8% below the 50-day SMA.
The Relative Strength Index registers 45.31, occupying neutral range, indicating the stock hasn’t reached oversold conditions but momentum has undeniably weakened.
A critical technical support level exists at $804, where purchasing activity previously emerged.
Wall Street Maintains Bullish Stance
Notwithstanding recent volatility, Wall Street analysts haven’t abandoned their positive outlook on Micron. The stock maintains a consensus Buy rating with an average price objective of $1,548.86 — representing significant upside from present levels.
Recent analyst initiatives reinforce this optimism. KeyBanc elevated its price target to $1,750 on July 14, while Cantor Fitzgerald established an even more aggressive $2,000 target on June 29.
Micron represents an 8.03% allocation in the iShares Semiconductor ETF and commands a 9.78% position in the Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF, meaning exchange-traded fund redemptions can intensify downward pressure during periods of market weakness like the current environment.
Despite the recent pullback, Micron stock remains ahead more than 200% year-to-date in 2026.
