The footwear company’s shares declined after management issued full-year diluted earnings guidance of $7.35 to $7.50 per share, slightly trailing the consensus estimate of $7.49. While the difference appears minimal, it was sufficient to dampen investor sentiment despite otherwise strong quarterly performance.
During the first quarter of fiscal 2027, the company generated $1.02 billion in total sales, representing a 5.7% year-over-year increase. Earnings per share reached $0.94, surpassing analyst expectations by $0.06. Deckers Outdoor Corporation, DECK
The HOKA brand produced $704 million in quarterly revenue, an 8% climb from the prior year. The growth spanned both legacy products such as the Clifton and Bondi collections as well as recent introductions including the Speedgoat 7, Mach 7, and Mafate Speed 2 models.
Management highlighted the Clifton Pro’s early success, noting that wholesale partners were already placing reorders within two weeks of its market debut. Company executives described this launch as part of a strategic initiative to establish clearer product segmentation within HOKA, organizing offerings into distinct “Glide” cushioning and “Fly” performance-oriented categories.
HOKA’s wholesale channel recorded 3% revenue growth on a global basis. Leadership attributed the modest wholesale increase to timing variations in international shipment patterns compared to unusually early deliveries in the comparable period last year, emphasizing that underlying demand remained solid.
UGG Expands Beyond Seasonal Boundaries
The UGG brand contributed $278 million in quarterly sales, a 5% increase, with both direct-to-consumer and wholesale channels delivering comparable growth rates. Asian markets led international expansion efforts.
Men’s products represented the largest driver of UGG’s incremental revenue during the period. CEO Caroti revealed that men’s currently accounts for approximately 15% of UGG’s total revenue, with the company targeting an expansion to 20% or higher. Products such as the Ottosee clog and gender-neutral styles including the Tasman and Lowmel contributed significantly to this growth trajectory.
UGG’s evolution into a year-round lifestyle brand accelerated, with sandals, sneakers, and mules complementing its traditional cold-weather product assortment.
Profitability Resilient Despite Tariff Headwinds
Gross profit margin climbed to 56.4%, representing a 60-basis-point improvement from the prior year’s 55.8%. The enhancement resulted from advantageous channel and product mix dynamics alongside robust full-price selling momentum. Tariff-related costs impacted gross margin by approximately 150 basis points during the quarter.
Operating expenses increased 13% to $420 million, reflecting investments in personnel, marketing initiatives, and HOKA retail store expansion. Deckers concluded the period with $1.6 billion in cash reserves, inventory reduced by 5% to $808 million, and a debt-free balance sheet.
The company executed approximately $338 million in share repurchases during the quarter at an average cost of $103.79 per share. Roughly $4.7 billion remains available under its current buyback authorization program.
Deckers elevated its full-year gross margin forecast to slightly above 56.5% and increased operating margin guidance to slightly above 21.5%. Total revenue guidance remained unchanged at $5.86 billion to $5.91 billion.
For the second quarter, management projects approximately 5% revenue growth, with HOKA expected to deliver high-single-digit gains and UGG anticipated to grow in the mid-single digits. Second-quarter earnings per share guidance stands at $1.73–$1.78.
Leadership indicated that growth acceleration is anticipated during the fiscal year’s latter half, driven primarily by HOKA’s international wholesale operations and distributor network expansion.
