The aerospace manufacturer announced Tuesday that it shipped 60 commercial aircraft during May—representing a 33% jump versus the same period in 2025. Shares of BA declined 0.39% during trading.
Despite the improvement, the figure remains behind rival Airbus, which handed over 81 planes during the identical timeframe.
Among the 60 aircraft delivered, the 737 MAX represented 51 units. This marks the program’s strongest single-month performance since manufacturing operations resumed in December 2024, after a worker strike had suspended production.
The manufacturer is preparing to accelerate 737 assembly rates from the current 42 aircraft monthly to 47 units, with implementation scheduled for the summer season.
May saw the company secure 27 fresh orders. Among these, 14 were 737 variants designated for military conversion for a customer whose identity wasn’t disclosed.
Lufthansa committed to purchasing 10 787 Dreamliners, representing one of May’s most significant transactions.
The manufacturer also experienced 16 order cancellations for 737 MAX aircraft in May, resulting in a net addition of 11 orders for the period.
737 MAX Drives Production Comeback
The 737 MAX program has become the cornerstone of Boeing’s manufacturing resurgence. May’s delivery of 51 units demonstrates substantial progress compared to performance just several months earlier.
The upcoming production rate increase to 47 monthly units this summer will serve as a critical indicator of the company’s ability to sustain this positive trajectory.
May’s shipments additionally comprised six 787 Dreamliners, a single 777 cargo aircraft, and one 767 freighter.
The 787 line continues experiencing certification holdups connected to premium cabin configurations, which has constrained that model’s delivery pace.
Performance Through Five Months
From January through May’s end, the company has shipped 250 commercial aircraft in 2026. The 737 MAX accounted for 198 of those deliveries.
Fresh orders during the first five months reached 324, while 29 cancellations or order modifications occurred, producing 295 net new orders year-to-date.
The manufacturer’s unfilled order portfolio contained 6,178 aircraft as May concluded.
