Shares of Alphabet (GOOGL) experienced a 2% decline even after BNP Paribas analyst Nick Jones reaffirmed his bullish stance on the technology giant. Following Google’s introduction of Gemini 4 Argon, its latest artificial intelligence offering, Jones maintained his $420 valuation target.
With a ranking of #223 among more than 12,500 Wall Street analysts, Jones noted that this product launch demonstrates Google’s continued commitment to remaining competitive in cutting-edge AI innovation.
The new model surpassed OpenAI’s Astra along with Anthropic’s Fable 5.1 and Opus 5.5 across 13 out of 19 performance evaluations. These assessments measured capabilities in programming, cybersecurity applications, and tasks requiring multiple modalities.
In a post on X, CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted that the system incorporates “frontier safeguards” and is being deployed through a measured approach. Current access is limited to the U.S. government and a select group of trusted cybersecurity professionals participating in Google’s Fairwind Program.
Pichai indicated that additional developments are on the horizon. He stated that users will observe the company “iterating rapidly” with Gemini in coming months.
Future Plans for Gemini 4
Jones anticipates that Google will introduce additional Gemini 4 variants spanning various price tiers. Each version would be optimized for specific use cases and budget considerations.
The analyst also raised the possibility of a consumer-oriented AI agent. Such a product would function similarly to Meta’s Muse, leveraging Google’s extensive ecosystem of applications and platforms.
This type of offering could capitalize on Google’s established presence. Products like Search, Gmail, and Android already serve billions of users globally.
The pricing structure for Argon has been finalized. Upon public availability, it will be priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
Cached input tokens receive a substantial reduction as well, priced at 95% below the standard input rate.
Argon is already seeing practical application beyond testing phases. According to Google, employees are currently utilizing it for programming tasks, research activities, and content creation.
A Delayed Journey to Market
The development timeline for this model encountered several obstacles. Initial projections targeted a June release under the designation Gemini 3.5 Pro.
Google delayed the rollout to enhance coding capabilities and conduct more comprehensive safety evaluations. During this period, the company renamed the initiative as Gemini 4 Argon.
The postponement impacted Alphabet’s valuation. The company’s market capitalization has decreased nearly 20% since then, as market participants expressed concern about Google losing ground to OpenAI and Anthropic.
Notwithstanding recent headwinds, analyst sentiment remains overwhelmingly positive. GOOGL carries a Strong Buy consensus derived from 24 Buy recommendations and four Hold ratings issued within the last three months.
The mean price objective among analysts stands at $427.88. This figure represents approximately 27% appreciation potential from present trading levels.
Koray Kavukcuoglu, Chief AI Architect at Google DeepMind, indicated that the organization continues gathering input from initial users. Safety protocols are being fine-tuned ahead of broader distribution to developers, enterprise clients, and general consumers.
