Shares of Biogen (BIIB) climbed to a 52-week peak of $219.94 during Tuesday’s trading session, marking a remarkable 57% appreciation over the trailing twelve months. The biotechnology company’s shares commenced Wednesday’s session at $212.55, significantly above its 52-week trough of $131.52.
The upward momentum follows an impressive second-quarter financial performance and a substantial investment from institutional heavyweight BlackRock.
During the second quarter, BlackRock accumulated 15.98 million shares of Biogen, representing an investment of approximately $3.45 billion. This purchase grants the investment management firm an ownership stake of roughly 10.82% in the biotechnology company.
Additional institutional players also expanded their holdings. Empowered Funds increased its stake by 64.9%, Focus Partners Wealth grew its position by 172.2%, and Cerity Partners expanded its holdings by 15.3%. Collectively, institutional investors and hedge funds control 87.93% of outstanding BIIB shares.
The company delivered second-quarter revenue of $2.74 billion, exceeding analyst projections of $2.46 billion. Earnings per share reached $3.60, significantly outperforming the consensus forecast of $2.94.
Upgraded Annual Guidance
Based on these robust results, Biogen revised its full-year 2026 revenue forecast from a projected mid-single-digit decline to anticipated mid-single-digit growth. This represents a substantial directional shift, fueled by emerging products and an expanding rare-disease treatment portfolio.
The company established full-year earnings per share guidance between $12.00 and $13.00. Current analyst consensus projects $12.39 EPS for the fiscal year.
The stock currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 37.62 with a market capitalization of $31.40 billion. Technical indicators show the 50-day moving average at $204.36 and the 200-day moving average at $193.76.

Wall Street analysts have shown favorable reactions to the recent performance. Canaccord Genuity elevated its price objective to $248 while maintaining a Buy recommendation. Guggenheim reaffirmed its Buy rating with a $280 target. Oppenheimer sustained an Outperform rating alongside a $300 price objective. H.C. Wainwright increased its target to $251.
However, some analysts maintain more cautious positions. Barclays upgraded its target from $185 to $200 while retaining an Equal Weight stance. JPMorgan increased its target from $175 to $185 with a Neutral rating.
