Shares of Adyen experienced a significant rally on Thursday following the Dutch payment processor’s release of robust second-quarter results and an improved outlook for the full fiscal year.
The payment company’s shares climbed to €1,014.80 intraday, marking the strongest price level witnessed since February 12. The stock led gainers across Europe’s STOXX 600 benchmark during Thursday’s trading session.
For the six-month period ending in mid-2026, net revenue expanded 21% in constant-currency terms to €1.30 billion, marginally exceeding analyst projections. Transaction processing volume surged 24% year-over-year to €803.8 billion.
The company posted EBITDA of €641.5 million for the first half, falling slightly short of the Visible Alpha consensus forecast of €647.1 million. The variance was primarily attributed to increased expenses associated with recent corporate acquisitions.
Management upgraded the 2026 net revenue growth outlook to a range of 21% to 23%, representing an increase from the prior guidance of 20% to 22%. The enhanced forecast reflects contributions from the Talon. One and Orb acquisitions—marking Adyen’s inaugural deals since its founding two decades ago.
Strategic Acquisitions Drive Outlook Enhancement
Co-Chief Executive Pieter van der Does explained to Reuters that the improved guidance stems directly from the July completion of both the Talon. One and Orb transactions. However, he emphasized the company has no immediate intentions to pursue additional payment company acquisitions.
“I think it’s better for merchants to move to Adyen than the merchants that are on such a payment service to be acquired and being forced to move to Adyen,” van der Does said.
Prior to the earnings announcement, Adyen shares had been experiencing downward pressure. The stock had declined over one-third year-to-date following disappointing transaction volume data released in February and conservative forward guidance.
Analyst Response
Morgan Stanley reaffirmed its Overweight recommendation on Adyen while maintaining a €1,685 price target. Analysts characterized the second-quarter performance as exceeding expectations and projected continued upward momentum for the shares.
The investment bank acknowledged that elevated capital expenditure levels may pressure near-term free cash flow generation, though analysts framed this as a temporary timing matter rather than a fundamental concern.
Management indicated that capital expenditures are projected to represent approximately 7% of net revenue throughout 2026, above historical norms. The company is accelerating data center infrastructure investments to secure computing and storage capacity ahead of anticipated demand.
Capital spending is anticipated to normalize toward historical ranges following the conclusion of 2026.
Morgan Stanley analysts also highlighted the ongoing reduction in customer concentration metrics, with established merchant cohorts generating the bulk of recent growth. This trend suggests more diversified expansion dynamics rather than dependence on a handful of major clients.
During the reporting period, Adyen secured new enterprise customers including OpenAI, Aritzia, and Xiaomi. The company also deepened its existing collaboration with Toast across the United States market.
Product innovation continued with the introduction of Adyen Agentic, enabling enterprise clients to facilitate transactions through AI-agent protocols. Additionally, the company unveiled Intelligent Money Movement, an integrated platform consolidating payments, liquidity optimization, and payout functionality into a unified solution.
