The Assembly of Experts in Iran is currently deliberating on his replacement, with Mojtaba Khamenei, the late leader’s son, emerging as the leading candidate. Trump dismissed Mojtaba as a “lightweight” and declared his potential appointment “unacceptable.”
Casualties in Iran have reached at least 1,332 since operations began. Six American military personnel have also perished, all during the conflict’s initial 48 hours. Approximately a dozen nations are now participating in the expanding operation in various capacities.
Overnight Thursday into Friday, Iranian forces launched drone and missile strikes against several Gulf nations. Targets included Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Dubai. A refinery unit at Bahrain’s Sitra facility ignited following a direct strike. Qatar reported successfully intercepting an assault on Al Udeid Air Base, which houses critical U.S. military assets.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth indicated that military operations could extend anywhere from three to eight weeks. He emphasized that U.S. munitions stockpiles are “full up” and American military capabilities remain “overwhelming.”
In a Thursday interview with NBC, Trump indicated the U.S. objective was to “clean out” Iran’s governing apparatus, strongly suggesting regime change as the ultimate goal. In separate comments to Politico, he asserted the United States possesses an “unlimited supply of weapons.”
