MoonPay has introduced PayBox, an innovative payment infrastructure that bridges AI conversational platforms ChatGPT and Claude with comprehensive financial services. The solution enables users to execute transactions, swaps, bookings, and purchases directly within their chat sessions while maintaining complete oversight through security protocols including passkeys, spending thresholds, and customizable authorization frameworks.
Seamless Integration Between AI Assistants and Financial Operations
Account holders integrate PayBox by adding it as a custom extension within ChatGPT or Claude environments. The setup process involves account creation, passkey registration, and connecting either a digital wallet or payment card. MoonPay mandates identity verification procedures when users deposit funds via linked payment cards.
The platform accommodates cryptocurrency acquisitions, token exchanges, digital asset movements, and participation in decentralized finance protocols. Beyond blockchain operations, it facilitates travel arrangements, dining reservations, and transactions with compatible e-commerce merchants. Users initiate operations through natural language commands delivered to their AI assistant.
The connected AI evaluates available alternatives and structures the appropriate payment or blockchain operation. In standard configuration, users validate each action through their registered passkey. For greater convenience, autonomous operation mode permits transactions within boundaries established by the account owner.
Advanced Security Through Distributed Key Management and Granular Controls
PayBox secures payment credentials without revealing complete card details or private keys to the AI assistant layer. MoonPay employs multi-party computation architecture and trusted execution environments to safeguard wallet keys. This distributed approach ensures no individual component possesses sufficient information to independently authorize fund movements.
Traditional card transactions leverage Visa’s agent commerce framework to shield actual card numbers from exposure. Each passkey authorization applies exclusively to a single transaction and becomes invalid immediately upon completion. This architecture significantly reduces risks associated with credential theft, approval replay attacks, or device compromise.
Account holders configure permissions as either Always Ask or Autonomous. The Always Ask configuration mandates human verification before executing any payment, transfer, or blockchain operation. Autonomous operation respects expenditure limits and additional safeguards defined by the user.
Comprehensive Network Coverage and Ecosystem Partnerships
PayBox’s initial release encompasses Solana alongside numerous Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible networks. Supported platforms include Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid, Tempo, and Robinhood Chain. MoonPay has announced intentions to incorporate additional blockchain ecosystems following this initial deployment.
The infrastructure also interfaces with platforms implementing x402, an open specification designed for machine-initiated commerce. Current partnerships enable restaurant bookings, online retail transactions, and flight reservations through participating service providers. Coinbase originally developed the x402 protocol, which now operates under Linux Foundation stewardship with backing from prominent technology and financial services organizations.
MoonPay constructed the vault utilizing technology from Sodot, which the company acquired during the current year. Sodot’s infrastructure currently protects assets exceeding $50 billion across more than 10 million wallets. This acquisition enables MoonPay to merge proven security architecture with its existing platform serving over 1,700 enterprise partners throughout its international payment infrastructure.
