Partnership Details
Sources with knowledge of the negotiations told the Associated Press that the agreement could deliver as much as $5 million per year to Florida Athletics.
Beyond visible branding, the collaboration includes educational components. Ripple plans to provide financial literacy and technology training programs for Florida’s student-athletes and the broader university community, addressing both conventional finance topics and digital asset education.
Neither organization has publicly released the complete terms of the arrangement.
Scott Stricklin, Athletics Director at the University of Florida, emphasized that the partnership aligns with the university’s technological vision.
“Florida has a long history of embracing innovation and technology to enhance the experience of our fans and advance our programs,” Stricklin said. “Ripple has established itself as an innovative leader in financial technology, and we’re excited to welcome XRP to Gator Nation.”
The University of Florida participates in the Southeastern Conference with 21 varsity sports programs serving over 500 student-athletes. The athletic department has accumulated 49 national championships spanning 16 different sports.
Florida’s football team claimed national titles in 1996, 2006, and 2008, establishing itself as one of the SEC’s premier programs with a massive fan following.
Expanding Athletic Partnerships
This marks Ripple’s second significant collegiate sports partnership in recent months.
During July 2026, Ripple announced its role as official sports sponsor for the Kansas Jayhawks, featuring an XRP logo patch on team uniforms. The Kansas deal was characterized as the inaugural instance of cryptocurrency branding on jerseys for a major college athletics program.
Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, graduated from the University of Kansas.
Established in 2012, Ripple delivers blockchain-powered financial solutions encompassing payment systems, digital asset custody, and treasury operations. XRP serves as the native digital asset for the XRP Ledger, while Ripple also distributes the RLUSD stablecoin.
Additional cryptocurrency companies are pursuing sports marketing opportunities. Circle, which issues USDC, secured principal partnership status with Chelsea Football Club, placing USDC branding on match kits. In July 2026, Galaxy Digital became the designated AI and cryptocurrency partner for Texas Tech Athletics.
The University of Florida agreement represents another step in the cryptocurrency industry’s strategy to connect with massive audiences through collegiate and professional sports collaborations.
