A formal registration has been submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by Winklevoss Asset Services for a spot exchange-traded fund focused on Zcash. The investment vehicle would maintain direct holdings of ZEC tokens and seek a listing on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
Should regulators grant approval, the ETF would operate under the ticker symbol WINK. The fund would offer traditional investors access to Zcash exposure without requiring them to directly purchase or store the cryptocurrency.
Custody responsibilities for the fund’s ZEC holdings would fall to Gemini Trust Company, an entity affiliated with the Winklevoss family. The sponsorship duties would be handled by Winklevoss Asset Services.
According to the filing, the ETF would implement an annual sponsor fee of 0.25%. Documents indicate the fund will maintain a straightforward approach, avoiding leverage and derivative instruments in its strategy to mirror ZEC’s price movements.
Winklevoss Capital Fund has signaled potential interest in acquiring up to $100 million worth of ETF shares. However, the filing clearly states this prospective investment carries no binding obligation.
The proposed fund would operate through a cash-based creation and redemption mechanism. Under this structure, authorized participants would deliver cash to generate new shares, with Winklevoss Asset Services subsequently acquiring ZEC tokens on the market.
This framework allows market makers to interact with the fund using fiat currency instead of handling ZEC transfers directly. Documentation also identifies Cypherpunk Technologies as a service provider for Zcash blockchain operations.
Trading cannot commence until the SEC completes its review process and issues a determination. Regulators have not yet announced a timeline for their decision.
Existing Zcash ETF Already Trading
If launched, the Winklevoss product would become the second Zcash ETF in the market, joining Grayscale’s existing offering that trades as ZCSH. Grayscale recently executed a 3-for-1 stock split for its Zcash fund.
Zcash operates as a privacy-centric digital asset. The network employs zero-knowledge proof technology, enabling users to conceal transaction amounts and participant identities when desired.
Token Rally Continues Before Major Protocol Decision
The privacy coin has posted impressive gains exceeding 735% during the past twelve months. With a market valuation approaching $23 billion, ZEC currently ranks as the 10th largest cryptocurrency.

On Tuesday, ZEC changed hands near $1,376, representing a gain of more than 5% from the previous day. During the same timeframe, the broader cryptocurrency market advanced approximately 1%.
Price action saw the asset climb from the $1,290-$1,300 level toward $1,350. A brief retracement brought ZEC back to the $1,320 area before renewed buying pressure lifted it to $1,380.
The $1,375-$1,380 range has proven to be a stubborn barrier, with multiple breakout attempts unsuccessful. Immediate support exists between $1,355 and $1,360, while a secondary support level can be found in the $1,340-$1,345 zone.
Market analyst Ardi, operating under the handle @ArdiNSC, noted that ZEC has surrendered a daily swing low for the first time since the token was valued in the $400 range. He observed that the ZEC/BTC trading pair has also breached support levels on multiple chart intervals.
According to Ardi’s analysis, a bitcoin rally could propel ZEC back into its previous distribution range of $1,420-$1,500. He suggested that a lower high formation could subsequently develop before another decline toward the $1,100-$1,200 area.
He further warned that should bitcoin fail to break out and instead lose its current range, ZEC might decline directly to that lower zone without an intermediate bounce.
The NU7 network upgrade remains a focal point for Zcash market participants. The mainnet activation decision for NU7 is set to occur on October 20.
