United Airlines Brings Starlink Connectivity to Over 635 Planes
United Airlines revealed Thursday that Starlink Wi-Fi service is now operational on more than 635 aircraft throughout its domestic and global route network. This deployment encompasses roughly half of the airline’s daily departure schedule, representing a significant achievement in its satellite connectivity initiative. Moreover, United maintains a steady installation pace of approximately 20 aircraft per week as it extends network availability.
The carrier projects it will finish its comprehensive fleet-wide implementation by late 2027. At present, over 250,000 travelers utilize Starlink-enabled planes each day across roughly 2,500 flight operations. Since program inception, United has transported more than 37.7 million customers on 538,000 flights equipped with Starlink technology.
Furthermore, United launched a digital monitoring tool enabling customers to verify Starlink availability prior to their flights. Travelers can input their flight information and travel dates up to three days ahead of scheduled departures. The system also displays installation metrics across key operational centers, including Chicago, Newark, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
SpaceX Starlink Strengthens Position in Commercial Aviation Market
SpaceX maintains momentum in expanding Starlink’s commercial aviation footprint as more carriers integrate its satellite internet platform. American Airlines recently revealed intentions to deploy Starlink throughout more than 1,030 mainline planes starting early 2027. This initiative will encompass both narrowbody and widebody aircraft, broadening Starlink’s presence with another prominent U.S. carrier.
Alaska Air Group has rolled out Starlink service across roughly 38% of its consolidated airline fleet. Qatar Airways currently offers the technology on 150 widebody planes, while Air France pursues wider implementation. Emirates has also disclosed plans to adopt Starlink, further establishing the service’s global aviation footprint.
Beyond the aviation sector, SpaceX recently revealed an agreement to purchase Grain Management’s nationwide 800 MHz wireless spectrum holdings. This acquisition would facilitate Starlink Mobile’s growth through combined satellite connectivity and ground-based wireless infrastructure. As a result, the company continues advancing communications capabilities beyond its core residential and commercial satellite internet services.
United Launches Starlink Tracker Tool and Prolongs Loyalty Initiative
United’s newly introduced Starlink monitoring system reveals variations in installation advancement across different aircraft categories and operational centers. A recent platform demonstration indicated Starlink accessibility on 48% of departures, with 43% of total fleet coverage. Chicago achieved 55% penetration, whereas San Francisco registered 35%, demonstrating differences in aircraft distribution.
The carrier also prolonged its Switch to Better Wi-Fi status match promotion through October 22. Qualified American Airlines and Delta Air Lines loyalty program participants can obtain United Premier status valid through January 2028. Applicants must satisfy spending thresholds ranging from $1,500 to $7,000 and complete a qualifying flight within a 90-day window.
United documented a 275% surge in status match submissions compared with pre-campaign volumes. New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco produced the strongest participation numbers throughout the promotional phase. Meanwhile, United continues leveraging Starlink connectivity to enhance its passenger experience and loyalty program initiatives.
