Key Points
- President Trump acquired between $50,001 and $100,000 in Strategy shares on July 27, representing his biggest purchase since February.
- This purchase came after previous disposals of Strategy holdings in June and early July, with the reacquisition occurring close to the stock’s summer bottom.
- Strategy shares have surged approximately 83% from their June trough and gained around 70% since the late July acquisition date.
- The same filing revealed Trump divested between $5 million and $25 million worth of both Microsoft and Amazon shares on July 20.
- These disclosures emerge as federal agencies advance cryptocurrency regulations while comprehensive legislative frameworks remain stalled on Capitol Hill.
Recent documents from the US Office of Government Ethics reveal President Donald Trump acquired Strategy shares in July, timing the purchase near the stock’s annual low point.
Tuesday’s disclosure, encompassing 1,156 July transactions, indicates Trump’s investment accounts purchased between $50,001 and $100,000 of Strategy shares on July 27, preceded by a smaller acquisition worth $1,001 to $15,000 three days prior.
Strategy holds the distinction of being the planet’s largest corporate Bitcoin repository, maintaining 846,000 BTC as of September 21. The company’s share price typically mirrors Bitcoin’s volatility patterns.
Trading Pattern Shows Sell-Low, Buy-Lower Approach
The July acquisitions came after Trump’s accounts liquidated Strategy positions earlier that summer. Sales occurred on June 23 and 24, totaling between $16,002 and $65,000.
Just 48 hours following those sales, Strategy touched $81.81 intraday, marking its summer nadir. Additional selling took place on July 8, valued between $1,001 and $15,000.
The accumulation phase then commenced. On July 24, when the initial smaller purchase occurred, Strategy settled at $91.67. Three days later, during the larger acquisition, shares closed at $98.65.
Fast forward to September 22, and Strategy had reached $167.33 at market close. This represents approximately 83% appreciation from the June bottom and roughly 70% gains from the July 27 entry point, based on StockAnalysis and Quiver Quantitative calculations.
Strategy’s equity has jumped nearly 30% during the last five sessions alone, and approximately 37% over the trailing 30 days, according to Yahoo Finance metrics.
What Drove The Summer Discount
During July, Strategy had temporarily halted Bitcoin accumulation. The company’s holdings remained static at 843,775 BTC while management focused on equity offerings to secure additional capital.
Market activity also contracted significantly. Company records indicate average daily dollar volume declined to $1.7 billion throughout July, representing 2026’s weakest monthly performance. September witnessed a rebound to $3.6 billion.
Bitcoin prices have subsequently rebounded to approximately $86,423 per token. Strategy has restarted its accumulation program and expanded holdings back to 846,000 BTC.
The Strategy acquisition represents just one component of Trump’s broader July portfolio activity. The disclosure documents sales of $5 million to $25 million in both Microsoft and Amazon shares executed on July 20.
Multiple additional transactions valued between $1 million and $5 million appear throughout the filing. The Strategy purchases constitute a relatively modest portion of the month’s aggregate trading activity, which ranged from $79 million to $270 million.
White House representatives informed CNBC on Tuesday that external financial institutions manage Trump’s investment portfolio independently. The Trump Organization confirmed to CBS that neither the President, his family members, nor the organization exercises control over individual investment selections.
These assurances haven’t satisfied all observers. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Robert Garcia submitted correspondence in August raising questions about the transaction timing.
The ethics filing doesn’t indicate whether Trump’s accounts retained the July Strategy purchases. Disclosures report dollar ranges rather than precise share quantities or account balances.
Trump’s July activity also included a Coinbase stock acquisition, alongside liquidations of Bitcoin mining companies MARA Holdings and CleanSpark. The forthcoming August ethics report should clarify whether accumulation patterns persisted.
