The proposed 100-million-square-foot facility will focus on manufacturing, packaging, and testing cutting-edge logic and memory semiconductors. Tesla will oversee research and prototype development, while SpaceX will handle large-scale production operations.
Both organizations plan to deploy these semiconductors across Optimus humanoid robots, Cybercabs, SpaceX hardware systems, and xAI data processing centers. SpaceX has established a collaboration with Intel and intends to utilize Intel’s 14A semiconductor technology. Goldman Sachs forecasts worldwide chip-equipment expenditure will climb from $150 billion in 2026 to $218 billion in 2027 and reach $281 billion in 2028 as manufacturing capacity expands globally.
Nevada Semi Production Facility Approaches September Launch
Tesla has scheduled the opening of its 1.7-million-square-foot Semi manufacturing facility in Nevada for Sept. 24. The company anticipates the initial production ramp will proceed gradually ahead of the official launch date.
The facility possesses annual manufacturing capability for up to 50,000 commercial trucks. Tesla secured a 500-vehicle order from Einride recently, while WattEV committed to 370 units and Big F Transport placed an order for 40 trucks. The Semi garnered 965 of 1,067 applications filed with California’s clean-truck incentive initiative.
Tesla prices its 325-mile range Semi at approximately $260,000, with the 500-mile variant available for roughly $290,000. The company’s Megacharger technology can replenish 70% of operational range in approximately 30 minutes.
Current publicly disclosed Semi orders reach about 1,500 vehicles, considerably below the plant’s annual manufacturing capacity. Tesla plans to announce European specifications and distribution strategies at Germany’s IAA Transportation exhibition scheduled for September 2026.
