Taiwan Semiconductor Reports Exceptional Third-Quarter Financial Performance
The world’s largest contract chipmaker delivered NT$1,494.24 billion in consolidated revenue during the three months concluded September 30, 2026. The company generated NT$763.06 billion in net income as clients continued ordering advanced manufacturing capacity. Diluted earnings per share came in at NT$29.43, translating to US$4.60 per American depositary receipt.
Year-over-year comparisons showed revenue climbing 50.9%, while net income jumped 68.7%. The company’s diluted earnings per share similarly increased 68.7%, mirroring the profit expansion. When measured against the preceding quarter, revenue expanded 17.6%, and net income grew 8.0% from second-quarter levels.
TSMC generated US$46.72 billion in third-quarter revenue when calculated in dollar terms. This represented 41.2% growth from the year-ago period and a 16.2% sequential increase. The foundry achieved a 66.4% gross margin, 58.7% operating margin, and 51.1% net profit margin during the reporting period.
Cutting-Edge Manufacturing Processes Dominate Revenue Mix
Taiwan Semiconductor’s most advanced production technologies drove the majority of wafer sales throughout the third quarter. The company’s 3-nanometer manufacturing process contributed 33% of total wafer revenue, while 5-nanometer technology added 28%. The newly introduced 2-nanometer process delivered 8% of wafer revenue despite being in early production stages.
Seven-nanometer technology generated 10% of wafer revenue during the quarter. Combined, manufacturing nodes at 7 nanometers and below accounted for 79% of total wafer revenue. This distribution highlighted Taiwan Semiconductor’s strategic emphasis on cutting-edge processes versus legacy manufacturing capabilities.
TSMC operates as a pure-play foundry, manufacturing chips designed by fabless semiconductor firms rather than selling proprietary processors. The company’s services enable products across mobile devices, data center equipment, and artificial intelligence platforms. Strong orders for high-performance computing applications therefore significantly influence production priorities.
Fourth-Quarter Revenue Forecast Exceeds Current Period Results
Taiwan Semiconductor anticipates fourth-quarter revenue between US$52.3 billion and US$54.3 billion, surpassing third-quarter dollar-based sales figures. The projection assumes an exchange rate of NT$31.8 per U.S. dollar. Management forecasts gross margins spanning 65% to 67% for the year’s final quarter.
The chipmaker expects operating margins between 56.5% and 58.5% during the fourth quarter. Chief Financial Officer Wendell Huang linked the third quarter’s robust results to sustained demand for leading-edge manufacturing capabilities. He anticipates this trend will persist as Taiwan Semiconductor scales up 2-nanometer chip production.
The company’s forward guidance emphasizes advanced manufacturing technologies as the cornerstone of fourth-quarter production activity. The outlook combines higher revenue expectations with margin targets comparable to third-quarter achievements. Despite strong financial results and an optimistic revenue forecast, TSM shares traded lower ahead of standard U.S. market hours.
