Shares of SpaceX advanced 3% to $123.91 during premarket hours on Wednesday, extending Tuesday’s 3.1% rally that ended a seven-session downtrend.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp., SPCX
Despite the rebound, SPCX remains approximately 40% below its all-time closing peak of $211.39 achieved on June 16, shortly after the company’s historic IPO debut at $135 per share.
SpaceX announced it will release its first quarterly financial results on Aug. 4, following its groundbreaking $85.7 billion public offering — the largest market debut in history.
The significance of this date extends beyond quarterly results. It activates the company’s phased lock-up release structure, permitting insiders to divest up to 20% of their restricted holdings — potentially reaching 911.5 million shares — commencing Aug. 6.
A further 10% of restricted shares could become available for sale if SPCX maintains a closing price at least 30% above the IPO level for five out of ten trading sessions before the earnings announcement.
Short interest has intensified significantly. Bearish bets recently approached approximately one-third of the company’s available public shares. Elon Musk responded on Monday via X, stating that “the survival probability of firms who maintain a significant short position in SpaceX over time is very low.”
Starship Test Flight Rescheduled for This Week
The 13th Starship test mission has been rescheduled for July 23, following a postponement last week when engine ignition problems prevented launch.
“Some of the engines didn’t start, triggering an automatic launch abort,” Musk said. SpaceX said it modified the rocket’s propulsion system to fix the issue.
Starship represents the largest launch vehicle ever constructed or operated. SpaceX projects it can reduce orbital access costs by 90%, a capability fundamental to the company’s $1.6 trillion market capitalization and its planned orbital artificial intelligence operations.
The massive rocket also plays a pivotal role in SpaceX’s Starlink broadband constellation expansion and fulfilling NASA Artemis program commitments, which target landing astronauts on the Moon by 2028.
Tuesday evening saw SpaceX successfully deploy the Northrop Grumman MRV-MEP mission from Cape Canaveral. This mission features an autonomous spacecraft designed for satellite servicing and lifespan extension in geosynchronous orbit.
Falcon 9 Booster Retires After Record-Setting Service
Tuesday’s launch represented the 32nd — and ultimate — mission for the Falcon 9 first-stage booster utilized in this deployment.
SpaceX indicated the booster had reached operational limits due to the additional performance demands necessary for geosynchronous transfer orbit insertion.
Musk’s personal wealth was estimated at approximately $786 billion as of Monday, declining from more than $1 trillion when the IPO launched on June 12, per Forbes data.
SpaceX stock closed Tuesday’s session at $123.54.
