According to reports from various sources, the program is valued at approximately 100 trillion won, equivalent to about $72 billion. The framework centers predominantly on special cash distributions, with half of the firm’s free cash flow designated for investor payouts.
An individual with knowledge of the situation told Reuters that a board gathering was scheduled for Friday afternoon to evaluate the distribution program, though they refrained from providing additional details. A representative from the company declined to provide commentary.
Growing Demands for Capital Distribution
Both Samsung and SK Hynix have faced mounting demands to distribute extraordinary earnings back to their investor base. The surge in artificial intelligence has propelled chip earnings at both corporations to unprecedented heights.
During Q2 2026, Samsung disclosed a semiconductor profit increase of more than 250 times, reaching 89 trillion won. The company’s shares have soared 300% over the trailing twelve months, despite retreating from a peak reached in June amid worries about possible deceleration in AI-related expenditures.
SK Hynix took the initiative earlier in the week, unveiling a 40 trillion won buyback coupled with treasury share cancellation, while committing over 50% of free cash flow to investors through 2027. This action heightened market expectations that Samsung would respond with an even more substantial program.
Combined, Samsung and SK Hynix are forecasted to maintain approximately $263 billion in net cash by the close of the year. This amount surpasses the aggregate cash holdings of all six remaining Magnificent Seven technology giants in the United States, based on LSEG figures.
Analyst Perspectives
KB Securities released research Friday indicating Samsung could rapidly advance to the ā©300,000 price level. The brokerage highlighted earnings momentum fueled by an extended memory chip supply shortage and the likelihood of a special distribution exceeding 100 trillion won as primary growth drivers.
Samsung’s stock performance contributed to a 0.7% advance in the broader KOSPI benchmark on Friday. SK Hynix simultaneously gained approximately 4.4% during the session.
Through its current 2024 to 2026 capital allocation framework, Samsung already allocates 50% of its three-year free cash flow to investors. The newly proposed program, upon confirmation, would substantially exceed that existing obligation.
Samsung concluded Friday’s trading session up 3.5%, while SK Hynix ended the day 4.4% higher.
