Robinhood has acquired approximately $25 million in Bitcoin for its corporate treasury as the brokerage platform accelerates its cryptocurrency business development. Johann Kerbrat, who serves as senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international operations, revealed the transaction at the Digital Asset Summit Asia on Wednesday. He said the move aligns the brokerage more closely with Bitcoin and the broader digital asset industry. The precise timing of the purchase remains undisclosed by the company. Kerbrat made no announcements regarding additional asset acquisitions during his appearance.
Company Establishes Bitcoin Treasury Position
Kerbrat characterized the Bitcoin holding as relatively modest given Robinhood’s overall scale. The brokerage platform carries a market capitalization approaching $100 billion, with shares settling at $112 on Tuesday following a 1.85% decline. This Bitcoin purchase arrives alongside Robinhood’s recent launch of crypto perpetual futures for U.S. users, which includes contracts for Bitcoin and Ether.
Robinhood has offered no guidance on potential future Bitcoin accumulation or diversification into alternative tokens for treasury purposes. The brokerage now belongs to an expanding cohort of publicly listed corporations maintaining direct Bitcoin holdings. Strategy continues as the dominant corporate Bitcoin holder and announced an additional purchase this week, bringing its cumulative position to 848,000 BTC.
Platform Broadens Digital Asset Offerings
Robinhood has intensified development of blockchain-based products extending beyond conventional cryptocurrency trading. The platform introduced Robinhood Chain during July, built on Arbitrum infrastructure. This network facilitates tokenized equities and various digital instruments, while the Robinhood wallet provides functionality spanning more than 120 nations.
The brokerage serves 28 million funded accounts, with approximately 27 million located within the United States. This broader cryptocurrency initiative coincides with investor interest in crypto-linked public companies seeking sector exposure. Robinhood’s network achieved roughly $1.05 billion in total value locked as of Tuesday, according to The Block data.
Public Company Bitcoin Accumulation Continues
Robinhood joins the corporate Bitcoin landscape as multiple publicly traded entities maintain their BTC treasury accumulation strategies. Strategy acquired an additional 334 BTC for approximately $28.7 million during the period spanning October 1 through October 4. This latest Strategy Bitcoin purchase elevated its total reserves to 848,000 BTC.
Additional public Bitcoin holders encompass Tesla, Block, MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Riot Platforms. Robinhood’s $25 million allocation appears modest compared with those more substantial treasury positions. The purchase nonetheless establishes Bitcoin as a direct balance sheet holding while Robinhood advances its cryptocurrency trading infrastructure, tokenization capabilities, and blockchain services for its international client base.
