Key Highlights
- OG.com, Crypto.com’s derivatives platform, has completed SEC registration for security futures trading.
- Kris Marszalek, Crypto.com’s CEO, confirmed the registration enables single-stock futures offerings in the United States.
- The platform is pursuing regulatory approval from both SEC and CFTC for single-stock perpetual futures contracts.
- Competing platforms including Coinbase and Kraken are pursuing similar stock trading integrations on crypto exchanges.
- Robinhood recently partnered with Crypto.com and OG.com, acquiring equity positions in both entities.
The United States derivatives exchange operated by Crypto.com has secured regulatory clearance from the Securities and Exchange Commission to provide stock futures trading. This platform conducts business under the OG.com brand.
Kris Marszalek, serving as Crypto.com’s chief executive, announced the development through a social media post on Thursday. He indicated that the regulatory agency had processed the platform’s registration documentation.
The trading venue, officially designated as North American Derivatives Exchange, submitted Form 1-N documentation to the SEC. This particular form serves as the registration mechanism for national securities exchanges focused on futures contract trading.
The registration paperwork was lodged on Monday. The SEC processed the acknowledgment within 48 hours, confirming receipt on September 16. The effective date of registration was established as September 14.
Platform Pursues Perpetual Stock Futures Approval
According to Marszalek, the company’s ambitions extend beyond conventional stock futures contracts. The organization is engaging with both the SEC and CFTC to secure authorization for single-stock perpetual futures within the United States market.
Perpetual futures represent derivative contracts that lack predetermined expiration dates. While these instruments have become standard in cryptocurrency markets, they remain largely unavailable for individual stock trading in the United States.
Marszalek indicated the proposed products would merge innovations from digital asset markets with traditional US capital markets infrastructure. He conveyed this vision through his Thursday morning social media announcement.
The exchange maintains existing CFTC registration as both a designated contract market and derivatives clearing organization. These regulatory designations provide the foundation for product line expansion.
Competing Crypto Exchanges Pursue Similar Strategies
Crypto.com isn’t operating in isolation with its strategy to merge cryptocurrency and equity trading capabilities. Coinbase submitted its own notice registration documentation earlier this month targeting equity perpetual futures.
Faryar Shirzad, serving as Coinbase’s Chief Policy Officer, noted the platform awaits final CFTC authorization. Coinbase previously rolled out stock perpetual futures for international users outside the United States in March.
Prior to that milestone, Coinbase provided American customers with access to regulated crypto futures alongside 24/5 cash equities trading beginning in February. The platform has systematically expanded its equity-related offerings throughout the current year.
Kraken has similarly moved into this market segment. The platform established a partnership with the London Stock Exchange to provide tokenized versions of UK equities.
The arrangement encompasses 24/5 trading capabilities on the exchange’s after-hours trading platform. This service is scheduled to commence operations in 2027.
Robinhood has forged connections with both Crypto.com and OG.com. Earlier this month, Robinhood announced plans to channel certain event contracts, beginning with football-related markets, through the OG.com platform.
Under the terms of this arrangement, Robinhood committed to acquiring equity interests in both Crypto.com and OG.com. This transaction occurred following OG.com’s establishment as a standalone trading entity.
The SEC’s formal acknowledgment of Nadex’s registration filing represents the latest development in this emerging trend. Cryptocurrency exchanges are actively exploring additional avenues to integrate stock-based financial products alongside their core digital asset offerings.
