The chip manufacturing leader Nvidia has completed the purchase of Kumo AI, a Mountain View-based startup established four years ago, in a transaction valued at more than $400 million, as initially reported by The Information. The acquisition came to light when a senior Nvidia executive shared the news via LinkedIn.
The founding trio behind Kumo — Vanja Josifovski, Jure Leskovec, and Hema Raghavan — have completed their transition to Nvidia’s team. While their LinkedIn accounts now reflect Nvidia as their current employer, Kumo’s official website has yet to acknowledge the ownership change.
NVDA shares experienced a 1% decline on Thursday in response to the announcement.
Established in 2022 by researchers with ties to Stanford University, Kumo had successfully secured $37 million in venture funding from backers including Sequoia Capital prior to being acquired.
Understanding Kumo’s Technology
Kumo specializes in developing AI models that address predictive business inquiries by leveraging structured corporate data — including customer databases and transaction records. This represents a domain where conventional large language models typically face limitations.
The company merged synthetic data generation with graph-based machine learning technology to address these challenges. Its solutions can predict outcomes related to customer retention, credit risk assessment, and comparable business scenarios without requiring retraining for each new task.
“With the foundation model, you point it to your data, you define what you mean by churn, and a second later, you get the prediction,” co-founder Jure Leskovec explained in an earlier statement.
Kumo released its latest offering, KumoRFM-2, in April 2026. The company’s client roster and partnerships have featured DoorDash, Reddit, Databricks, and Snowflake.
Nvidia’s Ongoing Acquisition Strategy
This transaction represents another chapter in an established trend. Nvidia has purchased more than 100 companies in recent years as part of its strategy to construct a comprehensive AI technology stack.
Other notable transactions include a $20 billion acqui-hire involving critical assets and talent from AI inference provider Groq in December 2025, the purchase of data semantics firm Illumex in February 2026, and a $700 million acquisition of orchestration platform Run.ai in April 2024.
Nvidia’s specific plans for integrating Kumo’s capabilities remain uncertain. The company could incorporate Kumo’s models into its AI foundry platform, or leverage Kumo’s research team to create new enterprise-focused foundation models, according to The Information’s reporting.
This acquisition strengthens Nvidia’s collection of AI models designed to work seamlessly with its hardware infrastructure and provides enterprises with additional resources for building and tailoring models using its ecosystem.
