Superior Power Efficiency at AI Facilities
The company disclosed an average power usage effectiveness rating of 1.25 throughout its 2025 data center fleet. This metric contrasted with the worldwide industry benchmark of 1.54, as referenced in the company’s documentation. Lower PUE ratings indicate that a greater proportion of electricity powers computing hardware rather than auxiliary systems like cooling infrastructure.

While Nebius anticipates rising overall electricity requirements as it builds multiple gigawatts of processing power, the engineering methodology focuses on minimizing operational inefficiencies. Advanced Cooling Technology Minimizes Water Consumption
The company also highlighted minimal water usage at a proprietary facility utilizing closed-loop liquid cooling architecture. This location achieved water usage efficiency of 0.018 liters per kilowatt-hour by year-end 2025. The firm noted that forecasted U.S. data center averages range between 0.45 and 0.49 liters per kilowatt-hour.
Using present engineering specifications, Nebius projects that each gigawatt of infrastructure could eliminate the need for 3.3 billion liters of water intake. This quantity translates to roughly 900 million U.S. gallons or approximately 1,300 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The organization intends to implement comparable air and liquid cooling technologies at upcoming facilities.
Additionally, Nebius captured waste heat from its Mäntsälä, Finland facility throughout the reporting period. The heat recovery system delivered 19.5 gigawatt-hours of thermal energy to the municipal district heating infrastructure in 2025. According to company calculations, this initiative decreased heating expenses for connected residences by roughly 10%.
Green Energy Adoption and Local Community Programs
Nebius obtained 100% renewable electricity for operations in Iceland, France, and the United Kingdom during 2025. The Finnish facilities transitioned from 95% low-carbon electricity to entirely renewable sources. The company continues assessing cleaner energy alternatives for its U.S. locations.
One potential solution involves behind-the-meter fuel cell technology through a collaboration with Bloom Energy.
