MoneyGram continues advancing its blockchain payment capabilities through a deepened partnership with Solana, bridging cryptocurrency wallets with its extensive physical cash infrastructure. This financial services expansion creates pathways for users to transition seamlessly between digital stablecoins and traditional currency. The development strengthens Solana’s position in the stablecoin payment ecosystem.
Retail Network Integration Unlocks Physical Cash Access
According to MoneyGram CEO Anthony Soohoo, the initiative aims to merge blockchain technology with practical, everyday financial transactions. The service reaches consumers through approximately 500,000 retail partner locations spanning the company’s global footprint.
Through this Solana collaboration, compatible wallet applications enable users to exchange stablecoins for physical cash at designated MoneyGram outlets. Soohoo emphasized that expanding accessibility drives the company’s approach as digital financial services gain broader adoption.
Beyond consumer-facing features, MoneyGram intends to provide developers with access to its payment rails for creating innovative financial applications. Developers could embed cash deposit and withdrawal capabilities directly into their platforms using MoneyGram’s established infrastructure.
The financial services company continues developing its toolkit for third-party integration. This approach allows fintech companies to leverage existing physical distribution networks rather than constructing independent cash access systems.
Blockchain Initiatives Extend Beyond Previous Collaborations
MoneyGram initiated its expanded blockchain focus following the conclusion of its proposed partnership with Ripple. The company established a collaboration with the Stellar Development Foundation in 2021, integrating blockchain technology with traditional money transfer operations.
This June, MoneyGram advanced its digital currency efforts by introducing MGUSD, a USD-pegged stablecoin. The company collaborated with Bridge, Crossmint, Fireblocks, M0, and Stellar to build the technical foundation supporting this digital asset.
Earlier this month, MoneyGram Ramps debuted on the Solana network, creating an additional bridge connecting cryptocurrency and fiat currency. Rift distinguished itself as the first Solana wallet provider to implement this functionality.
This deployment provides Solana’s developer community with direct integration to MoneyGram’s physical retail presence through compatible development tools. According to MoneyGram, this framework supports expanding financial inclusion as additional wallets and applications connect to its cash distribution infrastructure.
