Key Highlights
- Shares of LG Electronics surged more than 6% in Seoul following Nvidia’s certification of its 2.6-megawatt coolant distribution unit for the DSX AI Factory platform
- The cooling system is now available on the Nvidia DSX AI Factory Marketplace and complies with DSX reference-design standards
- This marks LG’s third CDU to receive Nvidia qualification, adding to previous certifications for 600kW and 1MW models
- Nvidia designates the 2.6MW system as a “Large-Scale” cooling solution capable of managing multiple high-density AI server racks
- The announcement followed LG’s unveiling of an air-cooled centrifugal chiller for AI data centers just one day earlier
LG Electronics shares advanced 6.2% to reach 215,000 won during Seoul trading on Tuesday, significantly outpacing the KOSPI index’s 1.2% gain.
The rally followed LG’s disclosure that Nvidia had approved its 2.6-megawatt coolant distribution unit for integration with the Nvidia DSX AI Factory platform. The cooling system is now featured on the Nvidia DSX AI Factory Marketplace.
This represents LG’s most powerful CDU to achieve Nvidia certification. The electronics manufacturer previously obtained approvals for 600kW and 1MW models. Nvidia classifies the newly certified 2.6MW system within its “Large-Scale” category.
The 2.6MW CDU is engineered to manage thermal output from extensive AI server deployments. The system operates by distributing coolant through cold plates mounted directly onto CPUs and GPUs, subsequently transferring thermal energy to the wider data center cooling network.
Comprehensive Cooling Approach
LG has been developing what the company describes as a “Chip-to-Chiller” product range, encompassing every stage of the cooling process from AI processors to facility-wide thermal management. This collection features chillers, computer room air handling units, and liquid-cooling technologies.
According to the company, rack power density in AI data centers is now exceeding hundreds of kilowatts. Such demands surpass the capabilities of conventional rack-level cooling systems, creating demand for megawatt-class centralized solutions.
LG obtained Nvidia certification for its 600kW CDU in July. At that time, Nvidia confirmed the system satisfied over 100 technical evaluation standards, including cooling efficiency, system reliability, and backup functionality.
The 2.6MW model underwent supplementary validation to receive the “DSX Ready” classification. This positions it as the highest-capacity system in LG’s currently certified cooling range.
Building Market Presence
The announcement’s timing was strategic. LG introduced a new air-cooled centrifugal chiller designed for AI data centers on Monday, just 24 hours before revealing the Nvidia certification.
LG stated the new certification strengthens its standing as a “first mover in the next-generation liquid cooling market.” The manufacturer indicated it intends to keep providing solutions for the growing AI infrastructure sector.
Nvidia’s DSX AI Factory platform establishes benchmark specifications for AI data center infrastructure. Placement on the DSX Marketplace provides LG exposure to data center operators deploying Nvidia-powered AI systems.
The certification expands LG’s presence in AI infrastructure during a period of escalating demand for high-capacity cooling solutions driven by increasingly energy-intensive AI processors.
During early afternoon trading in Seoul, LG shares climbed as high as 7.2%, based on Dow Jones market data.
