On August 13, LG Electronics and NVIDIA formalized a partnership through a memorandum of understanding at NVIDIA’s Santa Clara, California headquarters. The collaboration aims to accelerate the development and market deployment of robotics powered by physical AI.
Shortly after the agreement, senior NVIDIA executives traveled to LG’s Yangjae Research and Development Campus in Seoul to inspect the ongoing construction of the company’s ambitious Data Factory project.
Spanning 10,000 square meters across four levels, the Data Factory is slated for full operation before the calendar year concludes. Once complete, it will serve as the training ground for several hundred robotic units.
LG has begun utilizing its CLOi household robots within the facility to capture and compile operational data. The structure features dedicated training zones, a full-scale residential environment designed for cleaning operations, and a replica manufacturing floor that mirrors LG’s Tennessee washing machine production facility.
The combination of real-world data gathered at the site and synthetic data produced via NVIDIA Cosmos is projected to reach 100,000 hours by year’s end. This extensive dataset will support the development of LG’s Robot Foundation Model, serving as the core intelligence system for its robotic products.
Leveraging NVIDIA’s Robotics Ecosystem
LG intends to integrate its manufacturing and logistics datasets with NVIDIA’s comprehensive robotics technology suite. This encompasses NVIDIA Omniverse libraries, NVIDIA Cosmos open world models, and the NVIDIA Isaac robotics development platform.
These advanced tools enable LG to create virtual environments and conduct robot training with greater efficiency prior to real-world implementation.
The robotic systems target two primary sectors: domestic applications such as cleaning operations, and industrial manufacturing processes. LG views both domains as significant long-term revenue opportunities.
In the previous month, LG established a specialized Robotics Business Center with a direct reporting line to the chief executive. The organization has designated this year as the formal launch of its robotics business initiative.
According to LG CEO Lyu Jae-cheol, the company’s objective is to establish itself as a full-spectrum robotics solutions provider by leveraging internal expertise alongside strategic partnerships such as the NVIDIA collaboration.
The roadmap involves progressing from industrial and commercial robotic applications toward consumer home robots as technological capabilities mature.
On the day this partnership news emerged, NVIDIA shares declined approximately 2.19%. LG Electronics stock similarly dropped by roughly 3.26%.
The Data Factory represents a cornerstone of LG’s strategy to develop robotic systems capable of executing sophisticated tasks across both residential and industrial environments.
