Shares of Fiserv (FISV) advanced 13.94% to reach $59.17, adding $7.24 in value throughout the trading day. Despite recording lower revenue and substantial non-cash charges, the company stood by its full-year financial projections.
Third-Quarter Results Show Revenue Pressures and Major Non-Cash Charge
The company posted GAAP revenue of $5.20 billion for the third quarter, down 1% compared to the prior-year period. Organic revenue performance held steady year over year, though results varied significantly between business divisions. The Merchant Solutions segment experienced a 3% revenue contraction, while Financial Solutions maintained flat revenue performance.
Fiserv disclosed a GAAP loss of $11.17 per share for the quarter, contrasting sharply with adjusted earnings of $1.75 per share. The dramatic variance stemmed from a non-cash goodwill impairment totaling $6.45 billion recorded during the quarter. This substantial write-down heavily impacted reported financial results and created the accounting loss for the period.
For the nine-month period ending in third quarter 2026, the company generated $15.52 billion in GAAP revenue, reflecting a 2% year-over-year decline. Merchant Solutions revenue fell 1% during this timeframe, while the Financial Solutions segment saw revenue decrease 4%. Additionally, operating cash flow totaled $3.09 billion, down from $4.12 billion in the corresponding nine-month period of 2025.
Project Elevate Cost-Efficiency Program Doubles to $1 Billion Target
The fintech provider announced it has doubled the savings objective for Project Elevate to $1 billion, expanding from the original $500 million target. Management identified substantial additional opportunities for operational streamlining after conducting an extensive portfolio assessment. The enhanced program underscores the company’s commitment to operational simplification and improved organizational effectiveness.
The expanded initiative aligns with Fiserv’s overarching strategy to optimize cost structure while enhancing technological infrastructure. Leadership emphasized an AI-everywhere philosophy as a central element of operational priorities moving forward. The company also noted improvements in banking client retention metrics, with net attrition decreasing more than 25% year to date.
Management pointed to sustained underlying momentum in its Clover business and accelerating traction across its merchant platform. Significant new client acquisitions have begun generating business activity as the operational roadmap progresses. These factors provide additional rationale for the elevated Project Elevate savings target and the company’s emphasis on sustainable efficiency improvements.
Fourth-Quarter Stock Repurchase Program Announced at $500 Million
The company disclosed plans to buy back $500 million worth of its common stock during the fourth quarter of 2026. The share repurchases will be executed under the company’s current authorization program. This capital allocation decision complements its wider restructuring and efficiency enhancement initiatives.
Management also confirmed its 2026 guidance for organic revenue and adjusted earnings per share. Nevertheless, adjusted revenue for the third quarter reached $4.85 billion, down 1% from the year-ago period. Adjusted operating margin declined to 31.2% from 37.0% in the third quarter of 2025.
Fiserv reported adjusted earnings of $1.75 per share for the third quarter and $5.38 for the nine-month period. Free cash flow, however, decreased to $2.04 billion from $2.88 billion during the same nine-month span of the prior year. Despite these financial headwinds, Fiserv (FISV) Stock gained 13.94% as investors responded positively to the enhanced savings program and planned share repurchase announcement.
