Ethereum experienced an approximately 5% price appreciation on Thursday, September 4, elevating its valuation to roughly $2,508. This advance followed an extended period of sideways movement confined between the $2,400 and $2,560 price boundaries.

The price movement wasn’t catalyzed by Ethereum-specific developments. Instead, two macroeconomic factors provided the momentum. Initially, emerging reports indicated potential de-escalation in US-Iran tensions, alleviating risk-averse sentiment throughout financial markets. Additionally, Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller tempered September rate hike expectations, stating “Give disinflation a chance. We can wait one meeting.”
Disappointing employment figures strengthened the dovish narrative. ADP’s August report revealed US private sector employers added merely 38,000 positions, significantly underperforming the anticipated 47,000 and marking the weakest figure since January. Market-implied probability for a September rate increase declined from 70% to 50%.
Market analyst Ted Pillows (@TedPillows) observed on X that Ethereum tested the $2,550 resistance level before experiencing rejection. He suggested that achieving a weekly close beyond $2,550 could establish a pathway toward $3,000.
ETF Capital Flows Stage Dramatic Turnaround
Following a $48.08 million outflow recorded on September 2, Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds experienced a significant reversal. September 3 witnessed net inflows totaling $141.39 million. BlackRock’s ETHA dominated with $72.07 million in contributions, while Fidelity’s FETH captured $65.11 million. Grayscale’s ETHE continued bleeding capital with negative $6.07 million. Aggregate inflows across all Ethereum-focused funds have accumulated to $13.17 billion.

The correlation between institutional fund flows and spot market pricing demonstrated remarkable synchronization across both sessions, with declines and recoveries mirroring each other closely.
Bearish Positions Crushed
Ethereum derivatives trading volume expanded 17.84% to reach $57.18 billion over the 24-hour period. Open interest increased 5.36% to $34.13 billion. Bearish position liquidations totaled $82.41 million compared to just $20.76 million from bullish traders ā indicating a pronounced short squeeze event.

During the most recent hourly period, the dynamics reversed. Long positions experienced $193,090 in liquidations versus $33,200 for shorts, indicating bidirectional volatility rather than sustained directional momentum.
Ethereum currently trades above all four key exponential moving averages. The 20-period EMA stands at $2,455.94, the 50-period positions at $2,438.36, the 100-period rests at $2,363.41, and the 200-period registers at $2,222.64. The upper range boundary near $2,560 has consistently rejected advancement attempts since August 27, including a brief spike to $2,555 on August 28 that couldn’t maintain elevation.
Exchange-traded fund inflows reversed course dramatically to $141.39 million on September 3, pushing cumulative flows to $13.17 billion across all US-domiciled Ethereum investment products.
