Ethereum is currently positioned at $2,420.48 following a 3.60% retracement over the previous day. This correction arrives after a robust August surge that elevated ETH beyond the $2,400 threshold for the first time in several months.

The recent decline suggests investors are securing gains from the rally. ETH successfully breached its average on-chain acquisition cost of $2,306, a critical threshold that historically triggers selling pressure from holders who were previously underwater.
Blockchain analytics confirm this behavior. The Spent Output Profit Ratio (SOPR) for Ethereum has maintained readings above 1 throughout the previous seven days. This indicates that the majority of ETH transferred on-chain was executed at profitable price points.
Notwithstanding the profit realization, institutional appetite through ETFs remains robust. United States-based spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds attracted $234.51 million in net capital on August 27, building on the $192.35 million recorded on August 26 and $179.80 million on August 25.
This remarkable nine-day consecutive inflow period drove weekly ETF accumulation to $722.24 million. This represents the strongest seven-day performance for Ethereum investment products in approximately ten months. Aggregate net inflows have now reached $12.87 billion, with total assets under management climbing to $15.57 billion.
Large Investor Accumulates Near Critical Resistance
A significant market participant deployed $13.55 million to acquire 5,425 ETH at an average cost of $2,498, data from Lookonchain reveals. This strategic entry occurred precisely at the $2,500 resistance zone, a level commanding considerable market attention.
Given that ETH presently trades beneath this whale’s entry point, market participants are monitoring whether buying pressure can reclaim the $2,500 mark. Successfully defending this level would reinforce the ongoing bullish technical framework.
Market analyst Daan Crypto Trades (@DaanCrypto) provided perspective on the price dynamics, highlighting that ETH established a higher high on weekly timeframes, which enhances overall market structure. He cautioned that bulls must avoid a breakdown below $2,300.
Stablecoin movements have bolstered market-wide liquidity conditions. Approximately $4.1 billion in stablecoins entered cryptocurrency markets during the past fortnight, according to DefiLlama analytics.
Network Metrics Show Limited Engagement
Blockchain utilization metrics have failed to mirror the price appreciation. Both transaction volumes and active wallet counts have contracted over recent days, indicating the rally lacks confirmation from genuine network usage expansion.
Futures markets exhibit similar restraint. Open interest figures have not experienced substantial recovery following a recent liquidation cascade that eliminated excessive leverage. Ethereum witnessed $97.3 million in forced liquidations across the previous 24-hour period, with $75.8 million originating from bullish positions.
The 14-day Relative Strength Index registers 69, approaching but not yet entering overbought conditions. Meanwhile, the Stochastic Oscillator reads 81, suggesting momentum may be overextended in the near term.
Total Ethereum open interest has climbed above $32 billion while daily trading volume exceeded $100 billion, according to Coinglass metrics. Market participants continue focusing on $2,500 as the primary upside target and $2,146 as the foundational support level.
