Coinbase rolled out around-the-clock US equity trading to qualified customers throughout the United Kingdom on August 6. The platform now delivers access to approximately 4,000 American companies, allowing British users to consolidate their stock holdings, cryptocurrency assets, and cash within a single application. This expansion aligns with the exchange’s broader “Everything Exchange” vision.
American Equity Access Arrives for British Customers
Qualified users can now trade US shares 24 hours daily across five days each week. The platform charges zero commissions and enables fractional ownership beginning at just £1. Coinbase confirmed the rollout will proceed gradually throughout Britain.
Customers can finance their equity purchases using either British pounds or USDC balances in their accounts. Members of Coinbase One receive unlimited rewards when they use USDC for transactions. According to the company, this service streamlines investment activities for users already active on its cryptocurrency platform.
The offering grants access to traditional US stocks via established brokerage infrastructure. Blockchain-based tokenized shares remain outside the current scope. Tokenized equity products leverage distributed ledger technology to represent ownership in publicly traded corporations and may enable extended trading windows.
Regulatory approval for stock trading services in the UK arrived last month. The company indicated plans to roll out tokenized stock products at a future date. These forthcoming offerings may mirror traditional US equity performance and potentially include shareholder benefits like dividend distributions. They remain separate from this initial product launch.
Global Expansion of Multi-Asset Platform Strategy
The British launch positions Coinbase alongside competitors offering combined stock and cryptocurrency services. Robinhood has broadened its digital asset capabilities, while Kraken and Gemini have entered the tokenized equity space. These platforms continue building unified interfaces where users manage multiple asset classes through single accounts.
Coinbase simultaneously enhanced its Australian operations on August 6. The regional division introduced regulated perpetual futures contracts for certified wholesale investors. This product delivers leverage up to 50 times across more than 150 contracts spanning cryptocurrencies, equities, and commodities under proper Australian Financial Services licensing.
These dual launches address distinct market segments. British customers receive retail-focused equity trading, whereas Australian clients obtain sophisticated derivatives instruments. Coinbase tailors its product lineup to align with regional regulatory frameworks and customer preferences.
The equity offering may help Coinbase diversify beyond cryptocurrency transaction fees as a primary revenue source. Income from digital asset trading experiences significant volatility tied to market conditions. Introducing US stock trading creates an additional channel for user acquisition while expanding the overall product ecosystem. The British rollout will proceed incrementally across the country in coming months.
