TLDR
- Cardano V11 Van Rossem is now active on the Preview testnet.
- Mainnet hard fork governance action is targeted for May 29.
- The PreProd PCM update was enacted on May 16 at 0000 UTC.
- Node v11.0.1 supports operation beyond Protocol Version 11.
- Ogmio’s readiness remains part of PreProd ratification checks.
Cardano V11 Van Rossem is now live on the Preview testnet, marking a key step in the hard fork program. The update moves Preview to Protocol Version 11 and keeps the mainnet governance vote target near May 29. PreProd is ready on chain, but ratification still depends on ecosystem readiness checks and remaining work.
Preview Moves to Protocol Version 11
Cardano V11 Van Rossem has gone live on the Preview testnet. The network is now operating under Protocol Version 11. The upgrade follows the hard fork initiation governance action submitted on May 5. It was enacted on Preview on May 8.
The update is part of Cardano’s wider hard fork program. V11 is designed to make smart contracts cheaper and faster to run. It also adds stronger cryptography and tighter stake pool security. Developers and infrastructure teams are now being asked to align systems with the new version.
Cardano-node v11.0.1 is the node version that can move through the hard fork boundary. It can also operate after the Protocol Version 11 change. Operators have been asked to upgrade infrastructure to this release. DB-Sync v13.7.0.5 has also been cleared for all networks. The release supports node v11.0.1 and helps downstream tools prepare for the upgrade. This step matters for services that depend on indexed chain data.
PreProd Waits for Ratification
PreProd has also moved forward in the rollout process. Its Plutus Cost Model update was enacted on May 16 at 0000 UTC. The PreProd hard fork general availability status is now on chain and ready. Even so, PreProd is still awaiting ratification and enactment. The hard fork initiation governance action was submitted on May 8.
The Hard Fork Working Group has not yet recommended ratification. The delay is linked to readiness concerns around Ogmios. It is treated as a critical ecosystem dependency. Community teams and Input Output engineers are working on pull requests to resolve the concerns.
Developers have been urged to test settings against the PCM changes. Some existing values have increased under the update. Testing is expected before the program moves further toward mainnet. Preparation is also underway for the mainnet Plutus Cost Model update. The submission date is expected to be announced next week. Benchmarking data is set to guide the next step.
Mainnet Vote Target Remains May 29
The mainnet hard fork governance action is targeted for May 29. The target depends on testnet progress and ecosystem readiness. It also depends on the work needed for the PreProd stage. The current angle remains clear. Cardano V11 Van Rossem is live on Preview, while the mainnet vote nears May 29. The program is moving through staged checks before mainnet action.
The Hard Fork Working Group continues to meet twice each week. The meetings are used to coordinate integration and rollout work. Readiness tracking is also being updated through the working group calls. The process shows a staged path for the V11 upgrade. Preview has already moved to Protocol Version 11.
PreProd is ready on chain, but it still needs the required ratification step. Mainnet work will follow after the Plutus Cost Model update process and testnet progress. The May 29 target remains tied to those conditions. Network teams are expected to keep testing and upgrading before the final governance stage.
