Key Highlights
- Partnership grants Anthropic access to SpaceXAI’s Colossus 1 supercomputer infrastructure
- Claude Code users across Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise tiers will see doubled five-hour rate limits
- Deal provides immediate access to 220,000+ Nvidia GPUs plus 300MW of additional capacity
- Anthropic’s annualized revenue has surged to $44B according to Wells Fargo analysts
- Dario Amodei revealed Q1 revenue jumped 80x year-over-year, creating infrastructure bottlenecks
In a strategic infrastructure agreement, Anthropic has partnered with SpaceXAI to leverage the Colossus 1 AI supercomputer, significantly expanding the computing resources available for its Claude AI platform.
SpaceXAI emerged from the merger between xAI (the company behind the Grok chatbot) and SpaceX earlier this year. Elon Musk oversees the combined entity alongside his responsibilities at Tesla.
The agreement provides Anthropic with immediate access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and introduces over 300 megawatts of fresh computing capacity, with full deployment expected within 30 days.
Anthropic intends to leverage this expanded infrastructure to substantially increase service capacity for Claude users. Subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans will benefit from doubled five-hour rate limits for Claude Code.
Additionally, the company is eliminating peak hours rate limit reductions for Pro and Max tier customers. Opus model API limits will also see increases across the board.
According to Wells Fargo analysts, this infrastructure expansion could significantly accelerate Anthropic’s revenue trajectory. The firm’s research indicates Anthropic recently achieved $44 billion in annualized revenue, representing substantial growth from $30 billion at April’s close and $14 billion in February.
Explosive Expansion Created Service Disruptions
Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei issued an apology earlier this week following service interruptions that affected users across multiple models.
During remarks at Anthropic’s developer conference, Amodei revealed that company revenue exploded 80-fold during the first quarter of 2025. Internal projections had anticipated only 10-fold growth during the same period.
“That is the reason we have had difficulties with compute,” Amodei explained. He emphasized that the company is aggressively working to expand capacity as rapidly as possible.
Beyond immediate infrastructure needs, the SpaceXAI partnership creates potential for ambitious future initiatives. Anthropic has signaled interest in collaborating with SpaceX on developing orbital AI computing infrastructure capable of supporting multiple gigawatts of processing power.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Strategy
The SpaceXAI arrangement represents just one component of Anthropic’s multi-pronged infrastructure expansion strategy.
The AI company has secured an agreement with Amazon for up to 5 gigawatts of computing capacity. Initial deployment of the first gigawatt is scheduled for late 2026.
Anthropic has also established capacity agreements with Google and Broadcom targeting 2027 deployment timelines. A separate partnership with Microsoft and Nvidia ensures additional capacity through the Azure cloud platform.
The company has invested in Fluidstack to support continued AI infrastructure development across the United States.
Among all these infrastructure initiatives, the Colossus 1 arrangement with SpaceXAI delivers the most immediate impact, with GPU resources becoming available within weeks.
