At its “Delivering the Future” conference held Thursday in Dartford, England, Amazon presented the latest iteration of its Proteus warehouse automation system. Shares of AMZN advanced 0.85% during the session.
This enhanced robotic system represents a significant advancement over the existing model, which operates exclusively in loading dock zones across 25 facilities in the United States, transporting carts weighing up to 400 kilograms. The redesigned version possesses the capability to navigate independently throughout entire warehouse facilities.
The most notable improvement lies in human-robot interaction. Rather than requiring detailed programming for each operation, staff members can now verbally communicate tasks to the robot, which then executes them autonomously.
“You tell it what needs to be done. It figures out the priority, the route, the timing,” said Scott Dresser, VP of Amazon Robotics.
This innovation forms part of Amazon’s extensive €10 billion capital allocation toward its European distribution network, representing one of the company’s most substantial infrastructure investments across the region.
Additional Robotic Technologies Unveiled
Beyond Proteus, Amazon debuted two additional automation platforms. STARK, a tote-management robot initially tested in Barcelona, will expand to 15 European facilities by 2027. Vulcan marks Amazon’s first tactile-sensing robot, engineered for handling merchandise requiring delicate manipulation.
The advanced Proteus units are expected to begin European deployment during the initial half of 2027.
The retail giant also revealed intentions to launch over 25 sub-same-day delivery hubs throughout Europe this year, focusing on the United Kingdom and Germany. Amazon Now, its rapid essentials delivery program, will extend operations to Manchester and Birmingham.
Same-day fresh grocery fulfillment currently operates in over 2,300 American cities and select Tokyo neighborhoods, with additional expansion scheduled for Japan, Britain, and other international markets.
Alexa+ Expansion and Investment Outlook
Alexa+, Amazon’s advanced AI-powered virtual assistant, is scheduled for release in 10 more countries throughout 2027.
Regarding financial commitments, Amazon forecasted earlier this year that capital investments would surge over 50% to reach $200 billion in 2025. This allocation encompasses AI infrastructure, warehouse automation technologies, and delivery network enhancement.
The Dartford presentation demonstrated the practical application of these substantial financial commitments.
Currently, 46 Wall Street analysts assign AMZN a Strong Buy rating, comprising 45 Buy recommendations and three Hold ratings issued within the past three months.
The consensus 12-month price objective stands at $319.14, suggesting approximately 26% appreciation potential from present trading levels.
