During Tuesday’s Google I/O conference, the search giant revealed a comprehensive redesign of its flagship Search product, characterizing it as the most transformative evolution in the platform’s quarter-century existence. GOOGL shares settled at $384.90, declining 2.09% during regular trading hours, then climbing 0.39% in pre-market activity.
At the heart of this transformation lies a completely reimagined Search interface, powered by the new Gemini 3.5 Flash model. The search box now adapts dynamically, accommodating multiple input formats including text, images, documents, video content, and even browser tabs from Chrome.
The updated system enables users to engage in continuous, multi-turn conversations directly within AI Overview panels, transitioning fluidly into AI Mode. According to Google, conversational context persists throughout these interactions.
The standout innovation involves what Google calls “information agents.” These are autonomous, always-on monitoring systems that continuously scan web content and trigger notifications when user-defined criteria are satisfied.
Google demonstrated several use cases: an agent tracking when a preferred athlete releases a sneaker collaboration, or another scanning rental property listings that match specific requirements. These agents operate continuously without requiring manual user intervention.
Access to information agents will initially roll out to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra tiers throughout the coming summer months.
Search Revenue Shows Strong Performance
This major product unveiling follows impressive first-quarter financial results. Google‘s Search and associated advertising streams generated $60.4 billion in revenue, marking a 19% year-over-year surge. Company-wide revenue totaled $109.9 billion.
AI Mode, introduced twelve months ago, has already attracted 1 billion monthly active users. Query volume has more than doubled each quarter following its introduction, with Google noting that overall Search query volume reached record highs last quarter.
The company is also integrating agentic coding functionality directly into Search. This capability enables Search to dynamically generate custom dashboards, tracking tools, and lightweight applications in response to user inquiries. One demonstration showed a fitness and nutrition tracker automatically configured based on individual schedules, gym access, and local climate data.
These “generative UI” features will become available to all users without charge during the summer period.
Gemini Platform Receives Major Enhancements
Separate from Search improvements, Gemini received its own set of upgrades. The application now features redesigned interfaces, Gemini Live for conversational interactions, and a Daily Brief function that integrates with Gmail and Calendar to provide personalized day summaries.
Gemini Spark, a newly introduced personal assistant agent, offers expanded capabilities. It can analyze credit card transactions to identify hidden charges or track school communication platforms for upcoming assignment deadlines. Users maintain control over which applications connect to Spark, and the agent seeks explicit approval before initiating financial transactions or sending communications.
Gemini has grown to 900 million monthly active users, up from 400 million one year earlier.
This expansion occurs amid intensifying competitive pressure. OpenAI disclosed 900 million weekly active users in February alongside more than 50 million paid subscribers.
Google announced that Personal Intelligence within AI Mode is now accessible in nearly 200 nations across 98 languages, with no subscription barrier to entry.
