Shares of Alibaba experienced a 5% surge on Tuesday, representing the company’s most significant single-session advance in a fortnight, following Alipay’s announcement of what the payment platform characterizes as China’s inaugural full-stack agentic commerce solution designed specifically for merchants.

The development boosted investor confidence in Alibaba just days before the company’s scheduled June quarter financial results announcement.
This innovative platform equips merchants with a comprehensive suite of artificial intelligence capabilities, enabling them to transition from conventional digital operations to AI-enhanced business processes. Businesses currently lacking AI infrastructure can transform their existing pages, product catalogs, and operational workflows into what Alipay designates as “agent-ready capabilities.”
The cornerstone of this platform is Ah Bao, Alipay’s intelligent AI agent that debuted in June. This conversational assistant enables consumers to access over 10,000 AI-enhanced services through natural language interactions, covering everything from utility bill payments to restaurant reservations.
Major brands such as KFC, Luckin Coffee, and Mixue Bingcheng have already integrated with Ah Bao. Consumers can complete purchases and process payments simply by conversing with the AI agent, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple applications.
Broad Device Integration
According to Alipay, Ah Bao currently maintains connectivity with five leading smartphone manufacturers that collectively represent over 70% of the market, alongside 16 automotive manufacturers. The platform leverages its proprietary AHA protocol to enable merchants to connect with consumers across diverse devices including smartphones, vehicles, AI-enabled glasses, and additional hardware.
Ant Group’s CEO Cyril Han expressed optimism about future expansion. “Agentic commerce is poised for rapid growth over the next 6 to 12 months,” Han stated.
Among the strategic partnerships is a collaboration with foundation model developer StepFun, whose customer base can now access everyday services through Ah Bao on StepFun’s AI-native hardware. Additionally, OPPO has integrated its Breeno AI agent with the services ecosystem available through Ah Bao.
Developer Incentive Initiative
To accelerate adoption among developers and business owners, Alipay introduced an AI Business Incentive Program. The initiative provides 100 million complimentary tokens per user, transaction subsidies, and discounted payment processing fees.
Alipay’s network currently connects more than one billion consumers with over 80 million businesses throughout China, facilitating access to more than 10,000 services across sectors including travel, healthcare, and entertainment.
The official platform unveiling occurred during Alipay’s AI Ecosystem Partner Conference held in Hangzhou on Tuesday, August 18.
