Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., AMD
While Tuesday brought a modest 2.4% pullback, AMD remains among 2026’s top-performing semiconductor stocks, having appreciated 115% since January.
Wall Street Maintains Optimistic Outlook
Harsh Kumar of BMO Capital launched research coverage with a Buy recommendation and $550 price objective. Kumar characterized AMD as approaching full status as “a complete AI infrastructure provider,” highlighting its comprehensive portfolio spanning GPUs, CPUs, and DPUs, alongside the forthcoming Helios full-rack AI system.
Set for September 2026 delivery, Helios has already attracted significant attention from major players including OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic.
Taking a more aggressive stance, Raymond James analyst Simon Leopold elevated AMD to Strong Buy status with a $641 price target, increased from his prior $565 projection. Leopold emphasized robust performance in the server CPU segment and identified AMD as offering the most compelling combination of earnings leverage, data center exposure, and market share expansion opportunities among semiconductor stocks.
Leopold’s analysis projects AMD’s data center revenue will at minimum double during 2027, with realistic prospects of the company surpassing Intel in data center CPU revenue by 2027 or 2028.
The Street’s aggregate view reflects a Strong Buy consensus, comprising 28 Buy recommendations and 6 Hold ratings. The mean price target of $647.19 indicates approximately 41% potential appreciation from current price levels.
Middle East Expansion and Shareholder Activity
AMD’s Instinct MI355X-powered AI infrastructure has launched operations in Saudi Arabia through a collaboration involving Cisco and HUMAIN. The consortium intends to deploy up to 250 megawatts of incremental capacity beginning in 2027, with potential expansion to 1 gigawatt by 2030.
From an institutional perspective, Field and Main Bank established a fresh AMD stake during Q2, acquiring 19,373 shares valued at approximately $11.3 million. This purchase positioned AMD as the financial institution’s 13th-largest equity holding. Institutional shareholders collectively control 71.34% of the company’s outstanding shares.
However, not all institutional activity pointed positive. Ark Invest divested 156,286 AMD shares valued at roughly $74.5 million on August 28, following an earlier disposal of 37,977 shares worth over $18 million on August 26.
Corporate insiders also executed stock sales during August through predetermined Rule 10b5-1 trading arrangements. Executive Vice President Forrest Norrod liquidated 17,261 shares at $459.95 on August 24, while EVP Mark Papermaster sold 28,811 shares at $471.87 on August 20.
AMD currently trades at a price-to-earnings multiple of 118.15 and a PEG ratio of 4.87. Ascending Treasury yields have created headwinds throughout the semiconductor industry, pressuring AMD alongside peers Nvidia and Intel.
The stock’s 50-day moving average sits at $502.84, while the 200-day moving average registers at $389.16. AMD’s market capitalization currently stands at approximately $750 billion.
