Robinhood (HOOD) stock fell 3% on Friday, a day after closing at $103.99. The move came as attention grew around a recent stock sale by CEO Vlad Tenev.
Tenev sold about $42.6 million of stock on Oct. 5. A viral social media post then claimed he sold his stake and now owns zero.
What the Filing Shows
That claim does not match the SEC filing. It shows a 375,000-share block sold at prices from $112.62 to $115.48.
Tenev did not start with Class A stock. He sold Class B stock, which converts to Class A the moment it is sold.
The sale came under a trading plan set up in September 2025. The plan lets him sell up to 2.5 million Class A units before it ends on Nov. 20.
Tenev still holds 47.4 million Class B units plus 6,907 Class A units through a living trust. Thursday’s close put that stake at about $4.9 billion.
This was not his first sale of the year. He did the same thing on five other occasions under the same plan.
Robinhood is tied closely to crypto sentiment. The stock may not move in lockstep with Bitcoin, but it tracks trading volumes and mood.
Tenev’s latest sale lined up with a Bitcoin rally earlier this month. Bitcoin pushed past $86,000 before stalling.
Crypto has since come under pressure from rising oil prices, higher Treasury yields and a stronger U.S. dollar. That is quite a mix for one week.
