Solana (SOL) experienced a 3.37% decline, settling at $96.97, as markets anticipated the U.S. Senate’s scheduled vote on the CLARITY Act set for September 15 at 2:15 p.m. Eastern Time. The legislative outcome holds significant implications for whether digital assets like Solana receive classification as commodities under regulatory frameworks governed by the SEC and CFTC.

Advancing the bill past procedural barriers requires securing 60 affirmative Senate votes. Given that Republicans hold 53 seats, success hinges on obtaining support from at least seven lawmakers from the Democratic or independent caucuses.
Market participants exercised caution before the vote, driving SOL beneath the psychologically significant $100 threshold. The cryptocurrency sector overall contracted 0.79%, with aggregate market capitalization dropping to $2.63 trillion.
Technical specialist Anton Kharitonov from Traders Union characterized SOL’s current structure as “technically weak,” highlighting prevailing bearish pressure. His assessment noted: “Until SOL successfully reclaims $100.32 and regulatory outcomes become definitive, I maintain a defensive posture without interest in long exposure.” Kharitonov anticipates lateral or declining price movement while technical fragility and legislative uncertainty persist.
Critical Technical Thresholds
Current price action places SOL beneath both its 20-day moving average at $100.51 and 50-day moving average at $101.38, establishing these levels as overhead resistance. The long-term 200-day moving average positioned at $83.30 provides foundational support from below. The Relative Strength Index registers 33.81, while Stochastic RSI, Commodity Channel Index, and Bull/Bear Power indicators all reflect oversold conditions.
Anticipated near-term price boundaries extend from $92.51 on the downside to $101.43 on the upside. Breaching support at $92.51 risks intensifying downward momentum, whereas a sustained close above $100.32 would be necessary to validate bullish reversal prospects.
Meanwhile, technical chartist Trader Tardigrade observed on X that SOL had contacted the lower boundary of a bull flag formation visible on daily timeframes, indicating the pattern might still facilitate upward movement if price maintains current levels.
ETF Capital Flows Provide Underlying Strength
Notwithstanding price deterioration, Solana-focused ETF products captured $11.01 million in net daily capital on September 14. Bitwise’s BSOL product dominated with $7.10 million in contributions, while Grayscale’s GSOL added $3.91 million. Aggregate Solana ETF inflows have accumulated to $1.37 billion, with total net assets standing at $1.46 billion.

Cryptocurrency ETFs broadly demonstrated resilience. Weekly aggregate inflows totaled $1.3 billion, representing the sixth consecutive week of positive capital movement. Combined inflows throughout this stretch reached $6.8 billion, with BlackRock’s IBIT product alone contributing $3.4 billion.
Recovery prospects for SOL depend on establishing a confirmed four-hour candle close above $110. Inability to defend the $100 level would expose the $95 zone, which previously provided support during late-August price action.
