Anthropic has finalized a substantial $35 billion cloud services agreement with Lambda, an infrastructure provider that counts Nvidia among its investors. Through this partnership, Anthropic will gain access to computing resources housed in a data center currently under construction in Nueces County, Texas.
Hut 8, a company known for bitcoin mining and data center development, is responsible for constructing the facility. In a parallel arrangement, Nvidia has established its own contract with Hut 8 to reserve the capacity, positioning itself as the leaseholder for the property.
Lambda plans to utilize the Hut 8 facility to house processors purchased from Nvidia, which also serves as one of Lambda’s financial backers. The specific financial terms Lambda will pay Nvidia for facility access remain undisclosed.
This agreement represents part of Anthropic’s aggressive strategy to scale up its computational infrastructure. The AI company encountered capacity constraints earlier in the year when user demand for its services surged unexpectedly.
Recent weeks have seen Anthropic commit $45 billion to lease computing power from Nscale’s West Virginia operations. Additional contracts include a $50 billion arrangement with Fluidstack and another $45 billion commitment with SpaceX.
The Texas partnership reveals a sophisticated structure. It demonstrates how Nvidia is progressively facilitating access to its premium computing infrastructure for organizations lacking top-tier credit standings.
Last July, Nvidia unveiled an initiative providing credit assistance to cloud infrastructure companies like Lambda in return for revenue-sharing agreements. The chipmaker has temporarily halted certain arrangements under this program. Whether Lambda must share Texas facility revenues with Nvidia remains uncertain.
Hut 8’s Strategic Position
Separately, Hut 8 is constructing additional data centers for Anthropic that will accommodate Google’s tensor processing units, which compete directly with Nvidia hardware. Google has extended financial backing to assist Hut 8 in securing debt financing for these initiatives.
Last July, Hut 8 revealed that an unnamed “high-investment-grade company” had committed to 15-year leases covering its complete 700-megawatt Texas complex. While the tenant’s identity wasn’t disclosed initially, the company confirmed the $20 billion project would accommodate Nvidia processors.
Lambda has experienced rapid expansion. The infrastructure provider secured over $1.5 billion during a November funding round last year and previously partnered with Microsoft to establish AI infrastructure featuring thousands of Nvidia chips.
Currently, Lambda is negotiating to secure an additional $3 billion in funding, potentially achieving a company valuation of $12 billion or beyond.
Anthropic has chosen not to provide commentary on the agreement. Representatives from Nvidia, Lambda, and Hut 8 have not responded to inquiries.
This Texas infrastructure deal underscores the rapid pace at which Anthropic is securing computational resources to power its Claude AI platform and related products.
