Key Highlights
- Ripple executed a 1 billion XRP escrow release on September 1 across three separate transactions of 500 million, 400 million, and 100 million tokens.
- The company’s locked escrow reserves decreased from approximately 32.28 billion XRP to 31.28 billion XRP following the monthly distribution.
- The token release represents scheduled availability rather than immediate market sales, as Ripple typically returns unused portions to escrow.
- XRP maintained trading levels around $1.39, showing gains of approximately 1.7% daily and 30.8% monthly.
- Liquidations totaling over $2.3 million occurred within 24 hours, with short positions accounting for roughly $1.5 million of that figure.
Ripple completed its September escrow distribution on the first day of the month, releasing 1 billion XRP according to blockchain monitoring service Whale Alert. The Ripple unlock proceeded through three distinct transfers totaling 500 million, 400 million, and 100 million XRP from designated escrow wallets. This distribution aligns with Ripple’s established monthly protocol that permits the release of up to 1 billion tokens at each month’s beginning.
Escrow Reserves Decline Following Distribution
Ripple established its escrow framework in 2017 by securing 55 billion XRP within time-locked smart contracts. This mechanism was built to offer transparency regarding token availability while enabling the company to re-lock unused tokens.
Before the September release, approximately 32.28 billion XRP remained secured in active XRPL escrow wallets on August 31. Following the distribution, locked reserves dropped to roughly 31.28 billion XRP, representing about 31.28% of the cryptocurrency’s maximum supply of 100 billion tokens.
The monthly distribution should be understood as token availability rather than confirmed market circulation. Ripple maintains a practice of returning portions of each release back into newly created escrow contracts, which restricts actual market entry.
This approach means the actual volume reaching exchanges and trading platforms typically falls significantly below the full monthly allocation. The escrow mechanism continues to regulate the timing and volume of large-scale XRP availability.
Recent Performance Shows Upward Momentum
XRP price hovered around $1.39 following the escrow event, registering approximately 1.7% growth over 24 hours. The digital asset also demonstrated substantial monthly appreciation of roughly 30.8% and posted 14.5% gains across the previous 90 days.
Despite these positive movements, XRP continues to trade below its year-to-date opening levels. Market activity surrounding the distribution event reflected ongoing trader engagement as participants monitored both supply dynamics and wider cryptocurrency market trends.
Liquidation data revealed over $2.3 million in XRP positions were forcibly closed during the preceding 24-hour period. Short position liquidations comprised approximately $1.5 million of this total, while long position closures accounted for nearly $793,000.
This disparity indicates that bearish traders experienced disproportionate losses during XRP’s recent price advancement. Market observers will maintain focus on price movements, escrow operations, and upcoming monthly distributions as Ripple continues its predetermined release schedule.
