Trading at approximately $4.38 per share, NIO stock approaches its Q2 2026 earnings announcement scheduled for Tuesday morning, September 1. The financial disclosure will precede regular market hours, followed by a management discussion at 8:00 am ET.
This year has brought significant price swings for shareholders. After touching a low of $3.14 during the first weeks of 2025, shares rocketed to $6.87 by April following the company’s maiden quarterly net profit announcement. However, subsequent Q1 2026 results revealed a return to losses, triggering another downward trajectory.
The profitable Q4 2025 performance catalyzed an instant 20% share price spike. Throughout subsequent trading sessions, gains expanded to 45.6%. The Q1 2026 loss announcement swiftly erased those advances.
This established pattern amplifies the significance of Tuesday’s upcoming release.
Analysts surveyed by Wall Street consensus anticipate a 7-cent per-share deficit against $4.78 billion in top-line performance. These projections indicate an 80% revenue expansion compared to the same period last year and meaningful improvement versus the 32-cent loss recorded in Q2 2025.
Vehicle deliveries during the second quarter totaled 107,658 units, marking 49.4% year-over-year growth. However, this figure underperformed NIO’s internal projections of 110,000 to 115,000 vehicles. April proved particularly challenging with just 29,356 deliveries, though May and June demonstrated recovery with 37,705 and 40,597 units delivered respectively.
Non-GAAP Profitability Takes Center Stage
Research analysts at Deutsche Bank indicated in early June that they anticipate NIO maintaining profitability on a non-GAAP basis for Q2, supported by strong demand for higher-margin sport utility vehicle offerings. Their projections called for approximately 180 million yuan in non-GAAP net income.
During Q1 2026, NIO achieved adjusted operating profit of 66.8 million yuan alongside an overall gross margin reaching 19.0%āthe company’s strongest margin performance in four years. Revenue jumped 112.2% year-over-year to 25.53 billion yuan.
NIO has surpassed earnings per share projections in three of its last four quarterly reports, delivering an average positive surprise of 53.3%.
Automotive margins are projected to contract slightly to the 17-18% range for Q2, down from Q1’s 18.8%. Management previously indicated that escalating input costsāincluding memory chips, lithium carbonate, battery components, copper and aluminumāwould create margin headwinds.
Breaking Down the Vehicle Portfolio
The third-generation ES8 model represented 31% of second-quarter deliveries, totaling 33,474 units. The recently launched ES9 contributed 11,703 vehicles following its May 28 market debut. The Firefly brand accounted for 17,589 deliveries, while ONVO reached 29,124 unitsāa 70.5% year-over-year increase.
NIO’s twelve-month trailing revenue currently stands at $14.3 billion. First-half 2026 cumulative deliveries totaled 191,123 vehicles, up 67.4% from the comparable 2025 period.
The automaker now maintains over 3,900 battery swap facilities and 28,000 charging locations across its network. NIO’s forward price-to-sales multiple of 0.5 trades below domestic competitors Li Auto and XPeng.
Market participants will scrutinize management’s Q3 delivery projections, revenue outlook, and any commentary regarding full-year profitability objectives.
