U.S. equities closed higher Friday as investors parsed Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s inaugural Jackson Hole address since assuming leadership. Each of the three primary benchmarks ended the trading day with gains.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced approximately 0.37%, the S&P 500 increased 0.49%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.57%, extending the technology-fueled momentum from Thursday’s session.

Warsh Adopts Hawkish Stance on Monetary Policy
During his Jackson Hole presentation, Warsh emphasized persistent concerns regarding inflation remaining elevated above the Federal Reserve’s established target. Market participants interpreted his commentary as hawkish, signaling continued openness to potential interest rate increases.
Market reaction was immediate and pronounced. According to CME FedWatch Tool data, the likelihood of a rate increase at the upcoming September 15-16 Federal Open Market Committee gathering surged to 55.7%—a substantial jump from the prior day’s 35.4% reading.
Simultaneously, the probability of interest rates remaining unchanged through December plummeted from 25.9% to 14.8%.
Peter Boockvar, chief investment officer at One Point BFG Wealth Partners, commended Warsh’s presentation, noting he effectively articulated his framework for approaching future monetary policy determinations.
While divisions existed among Fed policymakers entering the Jackson Hole symposium regarding rate trajectory, Warsh’s address, though not eliminating all ambiguity, provided market participants with enhanced clarity on the central bank’s focal points.
Bond Market Adjusts to Revised Rate Expectations
Fixed income markets reacted accordingly. The 2-year Treasury yield climbed to 4.3%, while the 10-year yield declined to 4.67% and the 30-year yield retreated to 5.16%.
Earlier this month, longer-duration yields had reached multiyear peaks amid mounting concerns surrounding persistent inflation pressures and expanding federal debt levels.
Technology Sector Maintains Momentum Following Nvidia Rally
Thursday’s trading session had already provided upward momentum for equities, primarily driven by Nvidia. The semiconductor manufacturer delivered an optimistic long-term forecast anchored by robust artificial intelligence demand, reinvigorating investor confidence in AI-related investments.
This positive sentiment extended into Friday’s session, with technology shares holding firm despite elevated rate hike probabilities.
Salesforce similarly delivered impressive Thursday results, recording its strongest daily performance since 2020 after successfully addressing investor apprehensions about potential weakness in enterprise software spending.
Friday’s calendar featured no significant corporate earnings releases. The University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index provided the primary economic data point, offering insight into current consumer attitudes toward economic conditions.
Despite renewed uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve’s rate path following Warsh’s remarks, markets concluded the week with gains across major indexes.
