MSTR shares experienced a dramatic surge exceeding 10% during Friday’s pre-market session on August 21, climbing from Thursday’s closing price of $112.39 to reach $124.60, coinciding with Bitcoin’s overnight climb above the $70,000 threshold for the first time since June 2026.
The leading cryptocurrency posted an impressive 8% single-session gain, marking its strongest weekly showing in over 24 months. This powerful upward movement resulted in approximately $1.44 billion worth of liquidated short positions throughout digital asset markets.
The Bitcoin surge stemmed from two significant catalysts. First, the U.S. Treasury Department announced plans to expand long-term bond repurchase operations to a minimum of $4 billion per transactionāeffectively doubling previous levels. Second, President Trump convened a White House gathering with cryptocurrency industry leaders and urged congressional action on the Clarity Act.
MSTR functions as among the most sensitive publicly-traded instruments tied to Bitcoin price movements, meaning substantial cryptocurrency fluctuations typically produce magnified responses in the equity.
During Friday’s opening hours, shares advanced 9.1% to reach $122.64. This positioned MSTR for a cumulative 32% increase from Tuesday’s closing bell, potentially marking its strongest three-session performance since November 2024.

Broader market indices also registered gains, with the S&P 500 climbing 0.3%, the Dow Jones advancing 0.6%, and the Nasdaq rising 0.5%, indicating widespread appetite for risk assets.
Bitcoin’s decisive move above its 200-day moving average provided technical confirmation to the rally, strengthening momentum-driven purchasing across cryptocurrency-related equities.
