Shares of BJ’s Wholesale Club gained approximately 4% during premarket hours, reaching $94.90, following the disclosure of second-quarter financial results that exceeded analyst projections on every key metric.

The warehouse club operator delivered adjusted earnings of $1.36 per share, handily topping the consensus forecast of $1.17. Revenue for the period surged 16% to reach $6.23 billion, outpacing Wall Street’s expectation of $5.97 billion.
Comparable store sales registered an 11.9% year-over-year increase, benefiting significantly from robust fuel sales performance. When gasoline is stripped out, comparable sales still grew by 3.1%, surpassing the 2.6% growth rate that analysts had anticipated.
Revenue from membership fees advanced 9.9% to $135.6 million. Management attributed the improvement to enhanced member acquisition and retention rates, coupled with increased penetration of premium membership tiers at both newly opened and established locations.
The company’s total membership base reached an unprecedented 8.5 million during the quarter. Such customer loyalty speaks volumes about the retailer’s value offering.
Profitability Metrics Impress
Operating income expanded 16.5% to $252.4 million. Net earnings improved 15.4% to $173.9 million, compared to $150.7 million in the same period last year. Reported earnings per share stood at $1.36, representing a jump from $1.14 in the prior-year quarter.
Chief Executive Officer Bob Eddy noted that the company’s compelling value offering continues to strike a chord with its member base. “The traction we’re experiencing across our key strategic initiatives provides us with genuine optimism about what lies ahead,” he commented.
Chief Financial Officer Laura Felice remarked: “We achieved robust profitability, expanded membership fee revenue, and exceeded expectations on fuel sales — all factors that allowed us to increase our full-year adjusted earnings guidance.”
Full-Year Outlook Elevated
BJ’s increased its full-year adjusted earnings per share forecast to a range of $4.60-$4.80, moving up from the previously stated $4.40-$4.60 range. The new midpoint of $4.70 exceeds the current Wall Street consensus estimate of $4.53.
Management maintained its comparable store sales guidance, excluding fuel, at 2% to 3% annual growth. The Street had been modeling 2.5% growth for this metric.
Throughout the quarter, the company expanded its footprint by launching three additional warehouse clubs and one new fuel station. Management also executed share buybacks totaling 1.4 million units for $124.1 million.
The retailer’s fiscal year concludes on January 30, 2027.
