Trading platforms Robinhood and Coinbase experienced significant upward momentum Thursday following President Donald Trump’s public endorsement of the Clarity Act, legislation designed to classify Bitcoin and similar digital assets as commodities instead of securities.
Robinhood’s pre-market activity showed a 5% increase, briefly touching the $100.60 threshold. Coinbase registered a 9.6% jump during early trading hours, building on the previous session’s 10% appreciation. Strategy, known for its substantial Bitcoin holdings, similarly gained 5%.
This market response followed Trump’s August 19 gathering with cryptocurrency industry leaders at the White House, where he voiced strong support for the proposed regulatory framework. The Clarity Act is scheduled for a procedural vote on September 15.
Bitcoin’s value increased 11% across a 24-hour period, hitting $71,755—its most robust valuation since the beginning of June, based on Dow Jones Market Data.
CEO Tenev Champions Blockchain-Based Securities
Robinhood’s stock performance received additional momentum from CEO Vlad Tenev’s advocacy. On August 18, Tenev released a widely circulated commentary urging American regulatory bodies to establish comprehensive guidelines for tokenized securities.
In his statement, Tenev warned that the United States faces potential disadvantages in developing next-generation financial infrastructure if competitors abroad move faster. He characterized the present landscape as the opening phase of a worldwide tokenization supercycle.
The CEO praised the Clarity Act as an important milestone in establishing sustainable cryptocurrency infrastructure domestically.
Blockchain-based equity trading has already accumulated $9 billion in volume during 2026, reflecting growth exceeding 800% compared to the start of the year. This expansion has strengthened Robinhood’s positioning as a frontrunner in this emerging market segment.
Digital Asset Equities Face Year-Long Headwinds
Thursday’s advances occurred independently of broader market trends. The S&P 500 remained essentially unchanged, while the Nasdaq posted minimal gains. The rallies in Robinhood and Coinbase stemmed from industry-specific catalysts rather than general market momentum.
Cryptocurrency-related equities had encountered substantial challenges throughout most of 2026. A combination of macroeconomic uncertainty, stalled legislative advancement, and diminishing capital flows into digital asset exchange-traded funds constrained sector performance.
As of Wednesday’s market close, Coinbase had declined 29% year-to-date. Strategy recorded a 31% drop. Robinhood showed a 15% decrease.
Even with Thursday’s positive movement, Robinhood trades significantly below its 52-week peak of $153.86.
All three companies—Coinbase, Robinhood, and Strategy—navigate similar regulatory environments, meaning legislative developments affecting cryptocurrency typically influence the entire group collectively.
The Treasury Department took action Wednesday to reinforce bond market stability, contributing to improved sentiment that helped fuel Bitcoin’s upward trajectory.
September 15’s Clarity Act procedural vote represents the next critical juncture for cryptocurrency-related securities.
