Tesla (TSLA) is moving forward with plans to introduce its Cybercab autonomous taxi to Austin, Texas, streets, with a potential launch before August concludes, based on recent reporting from The Information.
Internal communications indicate that Tesla will initially provide rides to its own personnel on public thoroughfares, followed by integration into the company’s broader Robotaxi network in Austin just days later.
The production-ready Cybercab entered public road trials in June. Following that milestone, Tesla has executed a multi-stage testing protocol featuring employee-only rides on restricted routes and collaborative training exercises with area emergency personnel.
Designed exclusively for self-driving operations, the Cybercab eliminates traditional driver controls entirely. This compact two-passenger electric vehicle features a single 219-horsepower motor, a 48-kWh battery pack, and weighs approximately 3,113 pounds.
TSLA shares were changing hands near $339.84 during Monday trading, reflecting a 0.16% increase.
During Tesla’s second-quarter earnings discussion, CFO Vaibhav Taneja disclosed that Cybercab rides had already commenced within the company’s Austin manufacturing facility. This marked the first official acknowledgment that production units were being assembled.
