Once again, the Tesla Roadster finds itself in the spotlight.

Responding to a clip from his previous Joe Rogan Experience interview, Elon Musk confirmed that the forthcoming Roadster reveal will be “unforgettable.” This bold assertion comes for a vehicle that made its original appearance nearly a decade ago in 2017.

During a recent conversation with Jay Leno, Tesla’s design chief Franz von Holzhausen indicated the unveiling would take place “very soon.” However, he stopped short of providing any concrete date.

In July, Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy confirmed the Roadster remains “definitely in development.” He revealed that internal tech demonstrations had impressed Musk enough to get him “a little excited,” and characterized the upcoming showcase as “mind blowing.”

Originally, April 2026 was earmarked as the unveiling month. That window passed without ceremony. The timeline then shifted to August. Still, no official event has materialized.

Years of Postponements

The second-generation Roadster was first shown to the public in 2017. Close to ten years on, production has yet to begin.

During early 2024, Musk predicted that initial deliveries would occur within the first six months of 2025. That timeline also failed to materialize.

The performance figures remain impressive on paper. Tesla has promised acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds, a maximum velocity exceeding 400 km/h, nearly 1,000 kilometers of driving range, and an entry price around 173,000 euros.

Tesla has long suggested an optional SpaceX cold gas thruster system might enable the vehicle to levitate or hover temporarily. As recently as yesterday, Musk referenced flying cars again, maintaining that particular thread of speculation.

The latest official information from Tesla insiders came via Moravy’s July 2025 statements. He verified that development continues and a demonstration is in the works.

Von Holzhausen’s remarks to Jay Leno represent the most recent public acknowledgment, though “very soon” carries little weight without accompanying specifics.
